@matthewherper My 2026 bio twitter feed: “China is killing USbio,”
“don’t touch the NIH”
“Makary/Prasad have to go.”
So, existential crisis, but any reform/reformers are bad.
There’s a future where FDA/NIH is 50% more effective. Let’s stop crying & build plans to get there.
@zdp5000@fieldofschemes Not a defense of the stadium plan but Charlotte is maxxed out on stadium $$$. The bulk of the stadium financing is local and Charlotte has emptied the local coffers on the Panthers.
@peterrhague Trenchant analysis. Does the Parliamentary system particularly welcome or enable this type of individual? (Writing from the USA, where we have elected a movie star and TV personality in the last 50 years.)
@MLBRaleigh Put the ballpark village at the crossroads of 40 & 540 (near RDU/Brier Creek) for maximum road traffic and out-of-town traffic. (Near future Dundon lake Crabtree outdoor park.)
@petebvt Pretty clearly 2 different strategies here. Both may end up being right for their schools.
But personally I’m glad to have less riding on recruiting & retention of 17 yr olds and more more with proven 20+ yr olds, even if they’re mercenaries.
@DrSamuelBHume Comically overinflated. I did this analysis last month: $40k/day/drug for us. (Could be as low as $10k.)
The $1m/day fig either assumes mega revenue or accounts for all the failed drugs, like Tufts CSDD “$2.6B cost per drug” math.
@kenbwork Only misunderstood if you expected DNA sequencing to quickly unlock a multitude of cures but like PCR & CRISPR it is more evolution than revolution and that’s OK.
