Careful management like this requires more land and greater attention to the herd..there would have to be a fundamental shift in the amount of meat we consume, because grass-fed cannot produce as much as industrial-scale feedlots #NYUFS19
"About 460 gallons for 1/4 pound of beef, or about 1,750 liters per 113 grams" is the amount of water needed for a hamburger.. to put into perspective, 1lb corn or potatoes takes about 100 gallons. Water could be saved by switching to #vegetarian. #NYUFS19

Problems with the #watersupply can lead to civil conflict, famine and mass migrations to more habitable land. We should explore #solutions regarding our use of water in #meat, #dairy, and #agricultural production. #NYUFS19

#NYTimes read showing the effects of #climatechange on rural coffee farmers in #Honduras. Shows importance of #global climate change strategy, w/o it we will see problems with developing countries ag production& sustenance farmers across the globe #NYUFS19

I agree, the key word is #balance. This article did make it seem like a simplified issue while not taking farmer's concerns &economic impacts into consideration. But with #climatechange and depletion of nutrients in our soil, #farmers will have to adapt sooner or later #NYUFS19
Our #soil matters. But this article makes the issue seem rather simple. Deciding to protect the soil and, say, minimize tillage may force a farmer to either apply more herbicides or recruit more manual labor. Soil health is a difficult balance. #NYUFS19

Although #Wholefoods didn't use the word #bodega (it was just described that way by the author), I hope this concept stays in #Chelsea and doesn't spread to other neighborhoods and displace our local corner delis & bodegas #NYUFS19#Gentrification#NYC
Interesting to see #WholeFoods targeting more convenience-oriented markets. Curious about whether or not this #bodega model will be successful. #NYUFS19 https://t.co/BKQImWjKjK
We will see those companies increasingly investing in the cannabis industry to plan for the future as cannabis takes away from alcohol sales in the US. This article talks about the owners of Corona&Svedka investing in a Canadian company #NYUFS19#cannabis

Millennials are taking a step back from booze, shifting to yoga, exercise, and most recently, cannabis. The people who they talked to conveyed that the eternal hangover must end. Alcohol companies must be freaking out! #NYUFS19#alcohol

Even as the floodwaters recede in the midwest, there are dangers from waterborne diseases, contaminated water supplies, and flood damage. Let's hope these farmers in #Nebraska and #Iowa get the relief and help they need to rebuild. #NebraskaStrong#NYUFS19

I'm curious about two things- the amount of #food they can grow in that space and the amount of #energy required to keep the lights going... #hydroponic farming in urban food systems may be best suited to specialty herbs, veggies and microgreens for now #NYUFS19
Could underground hydroponic farms provide resiliency for urban food systems? With this system we can produce more food using less space and grow year round. https://t.co/BoeboE9TyS
Interesting towards the end of the article when the author talks about foods like tamales and sticky rice being packaged in banana leaves... maybe also solution to #singleuse plastic take-out containers and styrofoam? #NYUFS19#sustainable#Packaging
Sophie Hirsh notes how "fresh produce with a side of #plastic packaging" is the global norm in grocery stores. Rimping in Thailand is replacing plastic with discard banana leaves. Could US stores do something similar? #NYUFS19#sustainability https://t.co/amaHQKdZxO
Proud! But I don’t want to be always throwing money at the “problem”. Let’s invest into solutions.....Climate Change solutions now! Empowering communities now! Food resilience now! @WCKitchen#ChefsForMozambique
"BY THE NUMBERS
• 2.7 million pounds of Kona coffee grown annually
• 20 million-plus pounds of Kona coffee sold to consumers
— Allegation in a lawsuit filed by Kona coffee farmers"
That just doesn't add up.. let's hope they win! Important to support US farmers

On the 7 day walk from Cúcuta to Bucaramanga our @WCKitchen team is meeting 100s of refugees...families trying to find a place to make a life without wondering where their next meal will come from. Tomorrow I will be on this road, sharing their stories... #ChefsForVenezuela
@CRabbieburns@ellysonbeyer On the same thread, i read this article awhile ago, a day in the life of a NYC bike delivery guy- highlights the importance of tipping these workers who usually receive around min. wage, pay for their own bike repairs, work multiple jobs, etc. #NYUFS19

Stores have until June 30th to educate themselves on reasons for the ban. Come October they face a $200 fine/letter grades can suffer. How will this affect sales/business models of cafes and juice shops around the city that sell CBD products? #NYCFS19#NYC#cbdoil
"Officials cited a Federal Food and Drug Administration ruling that CBD is not a safe additive." CBD additives banned in NYC after a year in which we saw infused coffees, juices, even dumplings pop up in restaurants and stores all over the city

@lulu981106 I thought this was an article from a couple years back bc I remember this same thing happening at a US grocery store with beef. Couldn't find the article but this was in the UK 2 years ago.. makes you really think about where you're buying your food from https://t.co/fbFyY6H5KY
Great effort by @Cava in Brooklyn with first 100 meals free and a nonprofit to benefit Grow to Learn, a NYC nonprofit dedicated to fostering sustainable urban gardens in public schools. So important to expose the younger generation to nature&food #NYUFS19

As a minimum wage restaurant worker, I see firsthand how hard it is for people to live off 15/hr.. most of my coworkers have 2 or 3 jobs to be able to pay their rent in NYC #NYUFS19
The restaurant industry is growing, but servers aren't feeling the gains. While corporate restaurant executives have seen profits, restaurant workers have dealt with reduced hours and low, unpredictable pay. Is relying on customer's tips the best system?
