You can check the latest draft of my job market paper, along with more of my work, here: https://t.co/27NobUfZEs. Any comments/suggestions are appreciated!
Hello everyone!! I am currently on the academic job market and will be presenting my job market paper in the Virtual Crime Economics (ViCE) seminar. Check out this post for more info.
The next ViCE seminar is this Thursday, October 1, at 1pm ET.
Paulo Matos will present: "We Have Your Back? Discretion in Police Discipline and Peer Effects on Officer Misconduct"
And I am here teaching a course on the political economy of development. I guess I can skip the slides on “why we need to bring in politics to understand development”
Just sent this to a student, but I'd like every econ student to have it, so:
-Letter from Nancy Hyde, econ student prepping for finals, to Paul Samuelson, about his textbook. 1970
-His response (which I already tweeted years ago)
We are very excited to be organizing this conference @Caltech. We are especially looking for social science research on the implications of #AI and #genAI for politics, economies, and society. Please apply - or DM if you have questions. Hosted by @CaltechCsspp!
I’m excited to share American Stories, a new billion-scale dataset of structured texts/layouts from public domain newspapers (1780-1960) that we’ve built using our deep learning packages. #EconTwitter (1/13)

The 2023 revision of my book "Lectures Notes in Microeconomic Theory" is now available for FREE downloading at my homepage (see the first comment). Instructors (only) can ask for a manual solution. The highlight: new review problems (overall 66).
Peru is going through a situation much worse than Brazil 2013. More violence and without the institutions to solve the conflict. In Brazil democracy has not been the same ever since. I really worry that Peru might be in the same track
How do I know so much about how @elonmusk does things? I spent 3 years investigating Tesla at @BusinessInsider from 2018-2021. Here are some of sloppy, dangerous, callous, things I learned:
"What's happening with Elon Musk is a wonderful microcosm to show you how quickly people will abandon what they say is a principle when things aren't going their way." @TrevorNoah#BetweenTheScenes
There is a ton of stuff happening behind the scenes right now - I'm so grateful to everyone involved!
Ladies in econ, we have momentum. If you have info, please share it. I have a list of journalists who'd love to hear from you. Email/DM me for their contact info.
Been blissfully oblivious all day but I just saw all the #EconTwitter#MeToo discussion and it’s heartbreaking. We deserve better from our institutions and our colleagues.
Sending strength and solidarity ❤️
Wow, quite the story. 👇🏻👇🏻
Founding Arxiv is apparently not good for your academic career.
Good evidence that improving how science works is insufficiently incentivized.
