Plastic patriot tax exiles who fled to Gulf states to avoid paying their fair share back home should be charged the full whack if repatriated by the UK Government.
Dear God is he still around? Barber has retired I see. Wonder if he said all this to his pal Lebedev at “that party”. This guy is a walking talking living breathing Misconduct in Public Office. And never forget Brexit was a strategic goal for Russia
THIS IS *GARGANTUAN* 💥
One of the Chief Priests of Economists for Brexit has now publicly admitted:
🟥 Brexit made Britain poorer
🟥 Business investment collapsed
🟥 Productivity weakened
🟥 EU-facing firms cut jobs & spending
🟥 New trade barriers drag the economy down
🟥 Brexit deepened the fiscal crisis
🟥 There are no meaningful upsides
🟥 The damage is undeniable in the data
This is the economic equivalent of a senior Vatican priest admitting the Pope is wrong about God.
Even the architects of Brexit are confessing the truth 👉while Farage still lies.

"You might want to think twice before you let Nigel Farage Make Britain Great Again"
Reports @RachelReevesMP will announce a cut to the cash ISA limit at her 15 July Mansion House speech. If true, I think it's a mistake. I doubt it'll substantially nudge people to invest not save; said to be the aim.
This isn't nudge economics, its piss people off economics.
Currently you can put £20,000 in tax-free ISAs, whether cash (savings) ISAs, shares (investments) ISAs or the smaller types. Its said the reduction'd only be for cash ISAs, so people can still invest the same tax free.
NB At this point I should note, it is v likely to only impact future ISA limits (though whether the cut would start this tax year is a big question) so those with money already in cash ISAs shouldn't panic
My suspicion is that for many who use cash ISAs, it will just result in many having to pay more tax on their relatively paltry savings interest, not have an epiphany and think "oooh i'll just fill up the remainder of my ISA allowance with investments instead".
Now I should note, I am in favour of encouraging people to invest in the UK. It's good for individuals over the longer term and for the economy, especially if a way is found to encourage people to invest in UK firms.
Yet this isn't the route to do that. I'll be disappointed if the Chancellor chose to listen to the big investment firms in the City, and shut down many building societies and consumer groups who've said its not a good route.
Instead lets start a conversation about how we encourage investments - even possible intervention when people save to explain other options. We need to educate, provide better 1-on-1 easy guidance, and start to change the way people think about risk.
But lets use the carrot not a stick.
Since Boris Johnson came to power, there were 142 Tory U-turns.
In one case, 3 in one day.
I listed and documented them on a thread which ran from Dec 2019 to June last year.
On each of them, #BBC’s Mason declined to ever use the word ‘U-turn’.
Nine years ago the godfather of Brexit, Lord Daniel Hannan, predicted life in Brexit Britain in June 2025. Roll the tape… (VO by @gavinesler. Parts 2 & 3 below👇)
Russia refused Ukraine’s offer of total or air ceasefire. Trump refused Ukraine’s request for air defenses and declined to sanction Russia for murderous missile attacks on Ukrainian cities. Ukraine took out the planes used for these missile attacks. Simple.
Oh do shut up. He is trying to undo some of the enormous damage you did with your dreadful deal and after your and Farage lies got us out in the first place. Sadly it won’t undo it all but at least national interest comes ahead of ambition and charlatanism. As for the Covid inquiry, just consider yourself lucky all your media pals have given up covering it
1. Spend 20 years convincing the UK to leave its biggest export market.
2.Succeed.
3. UK economy loses £100 billion annually
4. Come back 10yrs later, point out the wrecked economy & road potholes.
5. Voters go "Yeah!"
6. Win elections.

Just a highly respected @jpmorgan analyst here REDACTING HIS OWN ADVICE on tariffs through fears of how #trump may retaliate personally - or on his firm and colleagues.
It’s the first time in 30 years he’s felt the need to self censor 🧵 @Bloomberg
The stages in a Donald Trump deal:
1. Lie about something being a problem
2. Do something to "fix" it, which causes an actual problem
3. Say you won't reverse what you've done
4. Reverse what you've done
5. Say "Art of the deal"
