वोट चोरी बहुत संगीन मसला है। इसे हल्के में नहीं लिया जा सकता। आरोप लगाने वालों की ज़िम्मेदारी है कि बिना प्रमाण के हल्के आरोप न लगाएँ। जवाब देने वालों की ज़िम्मेदारी है कि दूध का दूध और पानी का पानी करें।

हालिया आरोप अलग हैं — ये विपक्ष के नेता और राष्ट्रीय गठबंधन ने लगाए हैं, भारी-भरकम प्रमाण भी दिए हैं। महाराष्ट्र, उत्तर प्रदेश, कर्नाटक, बिहार — सब जगह वोटर लिस्ट में गंभीर गड़बड़ी के सबूत हैं।

लोकतंत्र में आस्था रखने वालों के लिए इन आरोपों को नज़रंदाज़ करना मुमकिन नहीं। जाँच की ज़िम्मेदारी चुनाव आयोग की है। अब चुनाव आयोग या फिर सुप्रीम कोर्ट या फिर जनता जनार्दन को कुछ करना होगा। वोट चोरी के राजनीतिक दंगल को हम दर्शक की तरह नहीं देख सकते।चूंकि इसमें किसी भी एक पहलवान की विजय में हमारी पराजय है। अगर सच की तह तक पहुंचे बिना वोट चोरी के आरोप ख़ारिज हो जाते हैं तो लोकतंत्र हारता है। अगर वोट चोरी साबित हो जाए लेकिन कुछ नहीं बदले तो भी लोकतंत्र हारता है।

Unless the ECI is made to broaden the criterion of exemptions or expand the list of acceptable documents, we are looking at another round of mass deletions of over 2 crores from draft rolls in Bihar.

The Election Commission’s boast of 98.2% receipt of documents is misleading, for it doesn’t tell us if they have submitted the documents that the ECI accepts. The truth is that more than one-third of citizens lack and cannot possibly produce one of the 11 prescribed documents. The harshest brunt of this paperwork trap falls upon Dalits and the most backward communities.

A fact check of ECI claims based on Bharat Jodo Abhiyaan’s second survey (July 31–Aug 13) across 16 ACs and 1,439 adults.
