@bigjoshlevine Maybe it's just nostalgia playing tricks on me, but perhaps we're limiting our options by sticking to the highly abstracted computer environments we've built over the past decades, before AI. Are we not making excellent programs because complicated old habits are holding us back?
@jb_61820 I follow a Youtuber who posts content every day, 7 days a week, and has been doing so for the last 10 years. Watching that channel is my morning routine. I'm a guaranteed source of advertisement eyeballs.
@mrdoob As someone who has spent a lot of time on this recently, it typically gets to an "almost works" level quickly, and from there it's a slow painful slog, or death by a thousand paper cuts.
@JudgeDrokk I travelled to London from Stockholm decades ago partly for the CEX retro stuff. Ended up with a Sinclair +3 and a stack of commodore books and other stuff. Good times.
@CtrlAltDwayne Cookie banners are needed if a web site is doing funky things to track users. When you see them everywhere, it shows how badly most web services treat their users.
@Shpigford Very cool, I'd try to hack it to work in Linux, but the non-open source license a deterrent. Purely AI-generated material isn't copyrightable, so it would be helpful to know what parts of the code is LLM, and which part is human (and FSL licensed).
@raysan5@datgame For funsies i had Claude port Apache ZooKeeper from Java to Go over a week in the evenings. That's ~170k LoC. Does the port work? Yes. Is it buggy as hell? Also yes. I think it's hard to make blanket claims right now, in either direction.
@JollyWangcore Yes. Those old fraternal orders seem built on exactly that principle: drink heavily, but with enough rules and rituals to stop it from becoming a brawl, and preserve just enough dignity to meet the next day.
@SplendidMaChao@tom_doerr Yes! I realize this now after going through the codebase. I was hoping for more. Been toying with a similar concept, but with an LLM in the loop and using inline emulation to build integration tests, and I was hoping that it would have been overkill. But no.
@SplendidMaChao@tom_doerr The sentence makes a strong first impression, until you realize that it says that it just produces compileable code, that mostly doesn't work as intended.
It's not unexpected, given the approach though, and it's still very cool.
