🇫🇴 Beinir Johannesen appointed Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands

Born in 1997, Johannesen is the youngest to become Prime Minister in the history of the Faroe Islands.

He is backed by a broad coalition of the People’s Party, Union Party, and Social Democratic Party.

I met with Denmark’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense @troelslundp, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Industry, and Trade of the Faroe Islands Sirið Simona Stenberg.

We had a detailed discussion on our military needs, strengthening air defense, countering Russian missile threats, and developing joint defense production. Particular focus was placed on drones for the frontline, interceptors and deep strikes.

We also discussed further development of the Danish model, particularly increasing investment and launching Ukrainian production in Denmark.

I am grateful to Denmark and the Danish people for supporting Ukraine’s defense. Thank you for the humanitarian aid and the truly successful projects we are implementing together.

The Faroe Islands fairytale. They did it!

They are in the U21 World Championship semifinal!

The Faroe Islands become the smallest nation (population) in the history of handball (both youth and senior level) to reach a semifinal at a major championship (European Championship, World Championship, Olympics)

With 54.903 inhabitants there’s only 30 nations in the world that are smaller in terms of population.

Previously the smallest nation (population) to reach a semifinal both on youth and senior level was Iceland.

The Faroe Islands defeat France and are in the quarterfinals (for the 2nd edition in a row!) together with Denmark!

To put the performance into perspective: there are more than 1100% more handball players in France than there are inhabitants in the Faroe Islands.
