The COP29 Presidency is attending the Organization of Eight Developing Economic Cooperation (D-8) High-Level Climate and Urban Dialogue, held in Baku for the first time. The event aims to align climate and urban action with sustainable development in the D-8 region and with the D-8 Decennial Roadmap for 2020-2030. This milestone high-level event will help to develop sustainable dialogue among Climate Ministers, Urban Ministers, D-8 Commissioners and Mayors from the D-8 region. #COP29

Upon the invitation from the @FAO, the #D8org Secretariat, represented by Director Punjul Nugraha @pondjol, participated in the 34th Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Europe #ERC34, hosted by the Republic of Moldova at the #FAO headquarters in Rome on 14-17 May 2024.

The Director delivered a statement on behalf of Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, the @D8SecGen, highlighting the #D8’s agricultural and food security cooperation. He underlined #D8’s initiatives, enshrined in the Dhaka Declaration, as the outcome of the 7th D-8 Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture in 2021.

The Director also took the opportunity of attending the #ERC34 to strengthen collaboration between the #D8 and #FAO and to seek support from #FAO for #D8’s agricultural & food security initiatives in innovation and digitalization are crucial to support sustainable agricultural practices, including climate-resilient and low-emission approaches.

The @D8org organized the 7th Session of the Supervisory Committee of the D-8 Preferential Trade Agreement (SC PTA), hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Dhaka today (4 March).

The session deliberated on novel and creative ways for the #D8 Member States to effectively operationalize the Preferential Trade Agreement Among D-8 Member States (D-8 PTA).

The Session endorsed the Dispute Settlement Mechanism Protocol to the D-8 PTA, the Paper on Trade Facilitation Strategy, and the “Dhaka Declaration on Trade Cooperation.” Those three documents are expected to be adopted by the D-8 Trade Ministers Council during its Third Session, scheduled in Dhaka on 5 March 2024.

#DYK that the D-8 Member States signed the PTA in 2006. The Agreement has been in force since 2011 and is now on the verge of full ratification by all D-8 Member States. The D-8 PTA comprises more than 1,200 lines of products that can be traded on a lower tariff than regular.

Ambasador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, the @D8SecGen, attended the opening ceremony of the 3rd #AntalyaDiplomacyForum #ADF2024 @AntalyaDF on 1 March 2024. The President of the Republic of Türkiye, H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, @RTErdogan, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, H.E. Hakan Fidan @HakanFidan, delivered opening remarks during the official opening session.

The @D8Org Secretariat, represented by Mr. Punjul Nugraha, Director for Economy & External Relations, participated in the 1st Meeting of the UNCTAD Multi-Stakeholder Platform on IIA Reform, organized virtually by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development today (29 Feb).

Director Punjul presented a strong collaboration between the #D8 and UNCTAD, which resulted in, among others, the publication of the Guiding Principles for Investment Policymaking in 2020 and the proposed establishment of a working group on investment instrument reform.
