I hate partaking in this stupid discourse, but in France, and elsewhere in the Western world I’d imagine, I’ve often been surprised that men will go out of their way to greet women with the typical French cheek kiss almost automatically, while greeting other men with a handshake. Women also expect you to try to cheek-kiss them, and can even initiate it. I’ve had to kindly dodge it several times and offer a fist bump instead.

All that to say: discriminating your way of greeting people based on gender is very much a thing in the West.

Now, you’re free to spill your typical leftist word-salad and take any specific social norm and “root” it in some ugly underlying ideology, make it a story that sounds plausible, that you have fuzzy unfalsifiable evidence for, and that’s really just pseudo-profound BS. But know that it would be just as easy for me to spin a coherent-sounding narrative like: the French cheek kiss is how men assert that women are sexual objects they’re automatically entitled to, and the exclusive cheek kissing is a custom that exists to normalize that access, to train women to offer their bodies on greeting, blablabla. That would obviously be a stretch, and you’d call me stupid and ignorant of French/Western customs, that the cheek kiss is just women-specific courtoisie men uphold, that it isn’t that deep, and you’d probably be right.

Well, know that this is exactly how you sound to anyone with a fair knowledge of Muslim greeting customs.
