We’re blown away y’all. Just absolutely floored by the power and goodness of God. Last Wednesday morning, Katie and I were pulled from Cal’s ER room into another room, joined only by the doctor and a chaplain. Cal had a brain tumor. A large one. Today, less than one week after all that, Cal Coleman was discharged from Le Bonheur Children’s hospital. The tumor is completely removed, the preliminary pathology report is promising for avoiding chemo (we’ll find out for sure in the coming days) and this kid is getting stronger by the minute! We’ll hang out at Le Bonheur’s FedExFamilyHouse for an evening just to transition back to real life (pictured is our Iron Man claiming his non-hospital bed), but Cal should be sleeping in his own bed Wednesday. Absolutely incredible. Miraculous even. Our journey isn’t done. Still some strength, coordination and vision to fully restore - all of which is progressing. And almost assuredly gonna have a few more Memphis trips in the weeks ahead for some level of treatment at St Jude to make sure we put a definitive end to this chapter. But wow, y’all. I won’t pretend to know the mind of God. His ways are higher than our ways. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. But it sure feels like God has used this to drill even deeper into our family that he is sovereign, he is able to do all things and he is so very good. He’s got something big in store for Cal. And I’m pretty sure now I know our boy is strong enough to handle absolutely anything. I’ll keep saying it for the rest of my life, but thank you all for the prayers for Cal and please continue them - for his sight, strength and all to fully return and for patience during the process. Also, for confirmed positive news on the pathology report and perseverance for whatever treatment it leads to. One last thing. As I write this, another boy just a few years older than Cal is on an operating table at Le Bonheur. We got to know the family a little over the last couple days as they were in the room next to us. (Dad is a State grad, too!) This young boy also has a brain tumor and is under the same skilled surgeon God used to help us. Please lift him up in prayer as well, that he might be fully restored to health and God would get even more glory!!
