Been doing some little snippets of writing since getting to Barcelona, mostly around impressions and observations of the city and people. Nothing polished, just little glances, snatches of the texture of life.

A great way to celebrate world social work day’s ‘respecting diversity’ theme would be for the @AASW_ to reduce barriers to enter the profession like 1000 unpaid hours that uphold the system of elitist professional gatekeeping #wswd2023.
It would have been great to see more diversity among the speakers at the @AASW_ Mental Health Social Work symposium today. There was a glaring absence of First Nations voices for example #aaswevents
GO MARY JO! I was very lucky to have MJ as a tutor in several courses during my Masters course at Usyd. She changed and helped my thinking in profound and important ways.

And the Social Worker of the Year is Mary Jo McVeigh. Mary Jo is the CEO of Cara House and CaraCare. She is also a lecturer at the social work department @Sydney_Uni, where she specialises in domestic and family violence and death and dying. Congratulations Mary Jo! #aaswevents

Coercive treatments have a background in the penal history of Australia. A brutal and harsh society built on genocide, sexual slavery, assault and stealing First Nations Land. Coercive treatments have a history. They are throughout the prison system (microculture). #AASWEvents
Loved hearing @LisaMBrophy@AASW_ Mental Health Social Work & Contemporary Practice Symposium. Powerful research being shared esp disproportionate rates of CTOs for certain demographics, & stigma around sharing lived MH experiences as a MH worker #aaswevents
Chile will have a new Constitution, closing a cycle that began with the US sponsored military coup of September 11, 1973. Dedicated to Nixon and Kissinger who certainly will hear the news 🖕 #PlebiscitoChile
