Meet Miguel Rojas.

He studied all 100 citizenship questions. He wanted no special treatment because he’s a professional baseball player. And when he passed, he said he was prouder of that perfect score than his World Series home run.

What stood out to me most was his gratitude. He talked about America opening its doors to him 21 years ago and said he’s never taken that opportunity for granted.

Preparation. Respect for the process. Gratitude for the country that gave you an opportunity. Wanting to contribute and be judged by your character, not your status.

Our adopted mutt protected us from an intruder last night, is having minor surgery today.
Last night, someone tried to break into our home. We were in bed when we heard the window in our room shatter. Our dog jumped off the bed and ran across the room and leaped through the broken window in pursuit, chasing the criminal across the yard where the guy apparently jumped the fence.
When he came back inside he was bleeding horribly from splitting the back of his leg open on the broken glass on the window.
We stayed up all night changing dressings and containing the bleeding. We live several hours from the nearest emergency vet.
This morning he made it to the local vet when they opened and will be sedated to have his leg sutured back up some time this afternoon.
We are so grateful for our brave doggie who likely protected us from someone awful. He was just a shelter dog, and we don't even know what kind of dog he is, but he's our best friend and protector. Adopt a dog, he might save your life!
