One of my contrarian takes:
Society peaked in the 80s, and it’s been in slow decline ever since.
It was the last era of widespread optimism. You can feel it in the music and movies.
“Excess meets innocence.”
The 80s also mark the end of the analog world—local economies, in-person everything, and a certain forced simplicity.
Malls, movie theaters, magazines, and BMX.
Then, beginning in the 90s, came the tidal wave of tech:
Mobile phones
The internet
Social media
AI
All incredible innovations, with lots of positives. But on the whole I think they’re *net negatives* for society.
We replaced a finite, real-world experience with an infinite, digital one.
Infinite information. Infinite comparison. Infinite distraction.
Human’s aren’t wired for that, and you can see the consequences all around us.
🔥 The Last Generation to Remember
Sometimes I think about this… and it hits me in a strange way.
Many of us alive today are the last people who remember what the world felt like before everything became digital. Before every thought, every meal, every opinion, every moment had to be broadcast to the world.
We remember knocking on someone’s door to see if they were home. We remember long conversations that disappeared into the air instead of being archived forever. We remember boredom… and how that boredom forced us to imagine, create, and explore the world around us.
Life felt slower then. More present. More human.
Now the world moves at the speed of scrolling. Everyone is watching everyone… judging, reacting, performing. It can feel like we traded real connection for constant connection.
But here’s the thing… we carry the memory of both worlds.
We know what life was like before the noise… and we are the ones responsible for showing the next generations what balance looks like. Not rejecting technology… but remembering that the most important things in life were never meant to happen on a screen.
Real laughter.
Real friendships.
Real sunsets.
Real conversations that change your life.
Maybe we’re not just the last generation to remember the old world…
Maybe we’re the bridge that helps humanity remember what it means to actually live again.

I think about this scene often. It’s from the movie A River Runs Through It. Turn up the volume and give this a listen before bed.
You won’t regret it.
@Seamus_the_pres@BrandonGowton We’ll always have the Foles Super Bowl . That was a team worth rooting for for. Sirianni is more dbag cheerleader than coach.
@Thefactsdude He’s in his underwear, gun pointed down. Kids in house . Probably was woken up suddenly with the pounding on door and ran out with gun, as I would. Sad.
Andy Frisella warns against more division amongst Americans.
"If you haven't figured it out yet, neither of these teams give a f*ck about you. It's the People vs the government. It's us vs them."
