APEFA participated in the @RwandaTV topic of the day, marking #WorldWetlandsDay, represented by Mr Habanabakize Protais, the Director of Programs Development.

He highlighted the critical role of wetlands in water regulation, flood control, biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods for Rwandan communities.

On this #WorldWetlandsDay, APEFA shared its field experience, emphasizing that community awareness, traditional knowledge, and sustainable management are key to safeguarding wetlands.

When communities understand the value of wetlands, they become their strongest protectors.

Through 53 projects, APEFA has reached 321,000+ beneficiaries, protected 464 ha of water bodies, and supported 11,000+ ha under landscape and watershed restoration—demonstrating that wetlands are vital for water security, climate resilience, and livelihoods.

APEFA also emphasized that protecting wetlands delivers real results for communities.

To date, APEFA has planted 19.5 million trees, protected 9,468 ha against soil erosion, and strengthened ecosystem services that support food production, flood control, and biodiversity.

Protecting wetlands today secures Rwanda’s future. 🌿💧
