Very sad to hear that Alejo Cochachin has died. Alejo was a leader in improving understanding of glaciers, lakes, and mountain ecoystems in the tropical Andes, and his passing leaves a huge void in the research community. My condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
This #dataviz shows the UK's warmest year on record. It has been relentlessly mild (or hot) all year apart from a 2 week cold spell at the beginning of December (which made it the only cold month). Overall the mean temperature exceeded 10°C for the first time ever!
