Perhaps instead of putting moms who take the lives of their own children on a pedestal.... the media should focus on honoring people like THIS.

This Georgia teacher swam into a rip current to save a 10-year-old girl .... and never made it back to shore.

Derrick Moore, 47, was at Myrtle Beach on August 7 with his family ahead of the new school year. He heard Summer McCallum screaming as a powerful current dragged her more than 30 yards offshore.

No lifeguards were on duty. Moore, a PE teacher and coach at Rockbridge Elementary outside Atlanta and a father of four, ran straight into the water.

He reached the terrified girl, held out his arm for her to grab, and helped get her onto a flotation device with other bystanders. Summer made it back to the beach alive.

Moore was pulled under by the same current and disappeared. His body washed ashore the next morning.

Summer later said the one thing she wishes she could tell him is “I really owe my life to you.” Students called him “Coach.”

Friends described a man who always showed up. He spent his career protecting other people’s children and gave his life doing exactly that on his last day.

This is what real courage looks like. Remember Derrick Moore.

AMERICANS NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHAT JUST HAPPENED.

On January 30, 2026, two influential Islamic-jurisprudence organizations; the Fiqh Council of North America and the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America, issues a joint fatwa permitting zakat aka tithe to support certain political candidates and campaigns when scholars believe doing so will advance Muslim interests or influence public policy.

Zakat is obligatory Islamic charitable giving. Some analysts estimate that American Muslims contribute approximately $140 million in zakat annually. That does not mean the entire $140 million will enter politics, but this ruling could potentially open a portion of that substantial charitable pool to political spending.

Now look at the connections:

• The Fiqh Council developed from the Fiqh Committee of the Islamic Society of North America, known as ISNA.

• Dr. Tayeb Jukaku U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed’s father-in-law is listed on ISNA’s Founders Committee.

• Jukaku contributed 300,000 dollars to a super PAC supporting El-Sayed. Where did that money come from?

• Abdul El-Sayed is the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in Michigan. If elected, he would become America’s first Muslim senator.

This does not prove that Jukaku wrote the fatwa or personally controls zakat funds. It does establish a documented connection between El-Sayed’s family, ISNA and the organization from which the Fiqh Council developed.

Here is the legal issue Christians should understand:

Christian churches organized under §501(c)(3) are prohibited from endorsing candidates, donating church money to campaigns or using church resources to raise money for candidates. Violations can result in penalties and potentially the loss of tax-exempt status.

That same law applies to mosques and Islamic organizations.

The issuance of this fatwa alone does not prove that every mosque has violated the law. Religious organizations may discuss public policy and religious teachings. Individual Muslims may also contribute their personal money to candidates within campaign-finance limits.

However, if any tax-exempt mosque or Islamic organization collects tax-deductible zakat and then directs, earmarks or funnels that money to particular candidates or campaigns, it should be investigated and subjected to exactly the same penalties that would apply to a Christian church.

Americans deserve answers:

How much zakat money will be used politically?

Which organizations will collect and distribute it?

Which candidates and political committees will receive it?

Will donors be told that political contributions are not tax-deductible?

Will the IRS and election authorities enforce the law equally?

Christians are constantly warned to keep their churches out of electoral politics. We must demand that the same standard be applied to every religion.

This is not an accusation against every American Muslim. It is a demand for transparency, equal enforcement and protection of the American political system.

Religious freedom belongs to everyone but so do America’s tax and campaign-finance laws.
