Cool moment catching Rod Brind’Amour on the ice just after their Stanley Cup Final win.
I let him know about the THOUSANDS of #Caniacs in and around Lenovo celebrating that night and his response was special:
“It’s a community team. They’re a part of it. I think this is their reward for a lot of years of getting close…but now it’s their trophy too.”
Hysterical.
Rod Brind'Amour said he didn't really have any input on the team not touching the trophy.
Then, he told on himself. 😅
"I had a couple of guys ask me what I thought, and I said, 'You do what you want.. but don't touch it.'"
Rod Brind’Amour becomes the first coach to take a team to the Stanley Cup after previously captaining that same franchise since...
Toe Blake did it with the Canadiens in 1968.
2002: Canes touch the Prince of Wales trophy, lose in the SCF
2006: Canes DON'T touch the Prince of Wales trophy, win the Stanley Cup
2026: Canes DON'T touch the Prince of Wales trophy... 👀🏆
On June 1st, 2006 the Carolina Hurricanes advanced to the Stanley Cup Final on home ice, led by captain Rod Brind’Amour who scored the game-winning goal.
With Rod now behind the bench, the Canes have a tremendous opportunity to do it again tonight. #SoundTheSiren#GETITDONE
