@PPAOhio storyteller: "We are asking the state to do the right thing & protect our youth. School should be a place of education. Right now it is a place where children have to survive threats on their lives & their mental health. With HB8, this dire situation becomes worse."
@PPAOhio storyteller: "House Bill 8 is a message to my community that we are not welcome. Forty-one percent of our youth who do not receive desperately-needed care consider self harm or even suicide as a way out. How many kids’ lives will it take to become a progressive state?"
"By taking away the safety that school offers in the form of counselors and teachers to talk to, this bill would force trans students to make a terrible choice: hide their truth & live with the mental pain it brings, or risk the backlash of a family who simply may not be ready."
@PPAOhio storyteller: "With the help of adults who understood me, I was able to choose when I felt safe enough to come out and became the confident person you see today. I was lucky, but my story could’ve looked very different without the safety and knowledge school offered."
@PPAOhio storyteller: "In my school’s guidance counselor, I found a place where I could talk about my confusion. I love my parents to death, but I knew this wasn’t something they would understand or accept yet, so having a safe place to label what I was feeling was a blessing."
@PPAOhio storyteller: "This bill has been dubbed the Unsafe Students Act, but it is clear to me that the true threat to the safety of students is a lack of accurate & precise knowledge, including a diverse depiction of experiences that they might relate to."
@PPAOhio storyteller: "Every person has the right to make informed decisions about their body and health. House Bill 8 makes this impossible by limiting students’ access to medically-accurate sex education, which necessarily includes education on sexuality and gender identity."
@PPAOhio storyteller: HB8 fosters an environment where educators feel intimidated & micromanaged, which hinders their ability to provide safe, inclusive, and effective education. Trust between educators and students is crucial, and this legislation jeopardizes that relationship.
@PPAOhio storyteller: HB8 will only add to the teacher shortage we face in Ohio. It doesn't matter how low you lower the standards for people to teach in the state of Ohio if there is no one who wants to be in the classroom because of the government overreach into our profession.
@PPAOhio storyteller: If HB 8 is passed and becomes law, I will be forced to out children to their parents if they disclose to me they are LBGTQ+, no matter their home situation. This will hinder queer students' ability to feel safe, which will then hinder their ability to learn.
@PPAOhio This bill will only add to our already existing teacher shortage, increase levels of bullying and adverse mental health effects on LGBTQ+ youth, and ensure the continuing exodus of Ohio families who no longer feel welcome in this state.

Four of our @PPAOhio Speakers Bureau storytellers will be testifying against this absurd bill. Send them some love if you're at the Statehouse! <3
🚨All testimony hearing for HB8 (ban on "sexuality content" in school classrooms with "Don't Say Gay" forced outing provision) is in Senate Education at 3PM. Looks like we have a single proponent, and well over 150 opponent witnesses 💪

It’s critical that we do everything we can to stop the passage of HB 475 to protect public health. Send a message to the Ohio House Government Oversight Committee urging them to vote NO on HB 475 here: https://t.co/ZClkv0JSo5
This bill is a gross overreach of government power. It demonstrates that bills like this are not about health—they're about politics, and they're hurting Ohio families.
