This photo is 113 years old.
It was taken by Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky, an early pioneer of colour photography.
If you've ever wondered what the world used to look like, Prokudin-Gorsky's photos will show you...
Great thread - A remarkable photographer indeed.
Prokudin-Gorsky developed an ingenious method for capturing color by taking three separate monochrome photographs through red, green, and blue filters, then projected these images simultaneously through similar filters to recreate the full spectrum of colors in his pphotographs.
The Library of Congress in the United States acquired the bulk of Prokudin-Gorsky’s surviving negatives in the 1940s. Decades later, with the advent of digital technology, his photographs were digitized, allowing for a broader appreciation of his work and the vibrant early 20th-century Russian Empire he captured.
