The tools in the Scala ecosystem are some of the most powerful in the industry.

The language capabilities are beyond anything mainstream. It'll take Java another 20 years to catch up.

The kind of stuff you can build with SBT is almost impossible in comparable tools of other languages. Mill is also going to be a real beast real soon.

The big libraries in the Scala ecosystem have no true equivalent anywhere.

Scala deserves the #1 spot in the charts, and it will get it with
1. no-brainer DX
2. seamless onboarding and smooth learning curve
3. marketing, i.e. showcasing Scala power to a large number of developers

Scala has incredible technical merit.

Right now, the single best investment the Scala team could do @scala_lang is developer experience, by far, bar none.

Dev tools, compilation speed, publishing tools, docs, frameworks, trained AI assistants, probably in this order.

For Scala to get the popularity it deserves, the effort invested in these vs language features should be 10:1.

What you make with code matters way more than the language & tools you use to build it.

That said, pick tools which get out of your way. It should be easy to put your thoughts in code, and once you write it, you should know it works.

Kotlin is doing many things right:
- best-in-class tooling and core libraries
- conferences and education on what good Kotlin is
- great dev feedback loop where collective experience is considered

Kotlin learned a lot from Scala - it's time for Scala to learn some non-technical lessons from Kotlin!

If you're a programmer, try #Scala for 200-300 lines of code and write a minimal app.

At worst, you'll learn something new. At best, you'll find your new favorite tool.
