Archbishop says end this two child policy that causes so much hardship https://t.co/6o6uPYpXFT even China has scrapped it! NB the benefit cap is a separate policy that also causes poverty.
New figures show alarming numbers not moving to universal credit - and losing all of their benefits as a result.
The proportion of tax credit claimants not moving to universal credit has jumped to 39%, up from 25% in July.

⚖️ A justice system isn't a justice system unless it’s accessible to ALL.
That’s why we’ve been working with our membership, expert stakeholders, academics, consumer groups and more to develop proposals to narrow the justice gap as part of our 21st Century Justice Project.
We've published our interim report that sets out a plan to increase access to justice for those on low incomes and small businesses who struggle to afford legal advice.
Our recent Legal Needs Survey highlighted the pressing need to address the justice gap – so we’ve set out actionable, simple ways to future-proof our civil justice system. Access our plan of action ➡️ https://t.co/5Gp9GXMK04
This begs questions of mortgage and legal advice consumers are receiving plus paying for - “as just 33% recall being made aware of the costs before purchasing their property, and only 23% saying they understood the rate at which the costs would increase.” https://t.co/F4nEBtlXxE
This chart shames the Tory government. The UK has recorded the biggest increase in child poverty of any developed country over the last decade. Remember that the next time the Tories tell you they care about ‘levelling up’
My new report out today – the first in a two-year research programme into precarious work here at @resfoundation, supported by @UnboundPhilanth – looks at employers’ use of variable-hours and temporary contracts. A thread on some key findings 🧵 … https://t.co/vnS4HeBUDO

Police officer: I've been a police officer for over ten years and sometimes when I respond to a domestic call I say to the mother (who is the victim) 'how can you let your children go through this?'
Me: How many times in 10 years have a you said to the perpetrating father 'how could you put the mother of your children and your children through this?'
Police officer: *Silence*
And we wonder why survivors don't want to go the police and perpetrators feel permission to continue to abuse.... Gender double standards around parenting (low expectations for man as parents, high expectations for women as parents) is real and has serious, and sometimes, deadly impact. #StopBlamingMothers #StopIgnoringFathers @SafeandTogether https://t.co/LyazeZzB7e
@KShabby16334956@MPIainDS@MelJStride I’ve said it before Ken, being on benefits, applying for benefits, sanctions etc - if you didn’t have a mental health condition to begin with - you will after that. If you had one before, it will make it worse.
It’s not a safety net, it’s a minefield.
Interesting finding from @TheFCA today. In 2023, 1 in 5 cut back on insurance to save money or because they can't afford it.
This aligns with our own findings which also show that the impact is not evenly felt. We found 40% of people on Universal Credit are in this position.
If someone - recently signed up to an IVA - is applying for crisis support today because they can’t afford food…I’m thinking that is yet another mis-sold IVA.
TikTok & other sites full of predators preying on people in debt. When will it end @TheFCA ?
