The Modi Government is Lying to Us

In this video, She decode three reasons why this claim is far from the truth:

1. The World Bank never released any rankings; it simply released India's consumption-based Gini index.

2. The Government incorrectly compared India's consumption-based inequality index with other countries' income-based inequality indices to rank India at the fourth spot.

3. Academic literature has established that inequality, when measured using consumption instead of income, is underestimated.

The Government said that policies such as PM Jan Dhan Yojana, Direct Benefit Transfers, Ayushman Bharat, Stand-Up India, Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, and PM Vishwakarma Yojana have led India to greater income equality. But data shows that India's inequality measure - the consumption-based Gini score has remained around 25.5 for decades, without the level of progress the Government claims.

A statistically correct comparison shows that India is among the most unequal countries in the world, with the top 1% of the population holding around 40% of the nation's wealth.
