The decision taken by the Bar Council of India (BCI) to bar the enrolment of NALSAR’s 2026 graduating students, and its subsequent withdrawal, points towards a deeply flawed approach. Holding innocent students accountable for an alleged wrongdoing in which they had no role is neither just nor acceptable.

ABVP does not agree with such an approach. Institutions like the BCI must refrain from issuing such arbitrary directions and ensure that every decision is based on facts, due process, a fair inquiry, and justice.

An Open Letter to the Jantar Mantar protestors:

My dear young friends,

I address you today not as a politician or an MP, but as someone deeply troubled by what is happening to your generation of young Indians.

This is personal for me. I was born to a middle-class family: my father was a salaried newspaper employee, my mother a homemaker, with three children to educate on one income. For a family like ours, merit was not a slogan. Scholarships, fair examinations, honest results — these were the only way one salary could carry three children's dreams.

I went to school in Mumbai and Kolkata, to college here in Delhi, topped the University and earned admission into IIM — and chose instead to follow my passion for international affairs, in America, on a scholarship. Nothing was inherited; everything was earned by hard work and yes, Exams.

So I know that a fair, merit-based system is the only ladder for young people from lower and middle-income families to climb up. When that ladder is broken — papers leaked, examinations cancelled, trust destroyed — the children of the rich and powerful do not suffer. They have other ladders. It is your dreams, and your families' sacrifices (and tragically, in some homes, young lives themselves) that are betrayed.

To the young people gathered at Jantar Mantar, and those raising your voices peacefully across India: this country hears you. Your anger is not indiscipline — it is the anguish of a generation that did everything right and was still betrayed . You are not alone.

And to the millions of young Indians watching quietly: your generation is not a problem to be managed. You are the answer to India's future. Do not lose hope. This ladder will be rebuilt — by you, and by every Indian who stands with you.

To Shri Sonam Wangchuk-ji, my heartfelt appeal: please end your fast. You have awakened the conscience of the nation; that is what a fast is meant to do. India needs your voice for the long road ahead.

With Parliament in session again from Monday, we will have an opportunity to raise the students’ issues in the highest forum of our democracy. That’s where the problem should be addressed, not by fasting unto death. Please heed my plea.

And finally, to the Government: I respectfully urge you to reach out and engage in the dialogue our democracy owes its young citizens. That is not weakness; that is statesmanship.

Never forget how India’s so called 'liberal ecosystem' defended Tahir Hussain.

When Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma was murdered during the Delhi riots in 2020 and his body was recovered from a drain, the ecosystem did not stand with Ankit’s family.

It rushed to manufacture victimhood for the accused.

The likes of Rana Ayyub declared that Tahir had been arrested merely “because he’s a Hussain.” Others portrayed him as an innocent Muslim being framed by a vindictive Hindu-majoritarian state. Every uncomfortable fact was dismissed as propaganda. Every demand for justice was labelled communal.

Today, a Delhi court - not the BJP, not television anchors, not “WhatsApp University” - has convicted former AAP councillor Tahir Hussain of murder, kidnapping, promoting enmity and rioting in the killing of Ankit Sharma.

The mask has fallen.

For this ecosystem, the presumption of innocence is sacred when the accused suits its politics. But a murdered Hindu becomes an inconvenient footnote, his family’s grief erased because acknowledging his killers would destroy their preferred narrative of the Delhi riots.

They did not merely get the story wrong.

They attempted to reverse the roles of victim and perpetrator to turn a convicted murderer into a symbol of persecution and bury Ankit Sharma twice: once in a drain, and again beneath their propaganda.

Never forget the crime.

And never forget those who defended the criminal.

This is a questionable decision and a pity. Undeniably Shibu Soren did much to promote tribal welfare and secure Jharkhands’s status as an independent state. But he took a bribe as a serving MP to vote in a particular manner : he abused his office and would have been prosecuted under the Prevention of Corruption Act were he not rescued by a then dubious 1998 Supreme Court decision ( by a majority of 3-2) holding that the right to vote was part of Parliamentary privilege ( even though the vote was motivated by bribery) , a decision which has mercifully been overruled in 2024 by a 7 judge Bench of the Court. The 2024 judgement held that corruption and bribery “ subvert the Rule of Law and damage the functioning of Parliamentary democracy” At one stroke, the award of the Padma Bhushan to Soren, reflects a cynical view on corruption, undermines the Rule of Law and Parliamentary Democracy, ignores a 7 judge Bench of the Supreme Court and in the ultimate analysis devalues the Padma Bhushan itself. Hopefully this is an aberration and rampant electoral success is not deflecting the NDA from it’s core values

I have uploaded and published it… There were at least 15 discrepancies, as per my blog. I would like to highlight three or four of them. Let me give a background about Coempt. It was known as Globarena, and they have a very shady background. 23 students killed themselves because of coempt… Now, I would like to tell you about RFP (Request for Proposal). What happens is the government issues a tender and asks the bidder to bid for it. CBSE issued this tender three times… I have compared the old RFP and the new RFP, and I found some discrepancies… The first discrepancy is that there were three clauses of poor performances which was completely wiped out from the new RFP. In the earlier RFP, there was a clause called blacklisted earlier, whereas in the new RFP, it was changed to blacklisted currently. Why would the board want a service provider which was blacklisted earlier? The third thing I found out is the 50 crore limit, which you needed to qualify, and coempt qualified that by 1.7% … The time frame of corrupt practices was halved, and there were project criteria changes… It shows a pattern that the industry giant TCS was not preferred, but coempt was preferred, which works as a very fragmented group of institutions…”
