@zulushiv@Theshashank_p Wasn’t aware of this one. Google says it’s permanently closed. There’s a New Prashanth hotel in Gandhi bazaar though, great biryani.
@Kuma50531Kumar It’s terribly designed. People who exit from nice road and would want to go towards Vijaynagar or towards kr market would have to take a U turn at bhel, creating a mess for usually commuters on that road.
@streetfrontier West has the least amount of defence land coverage, so that’s where this should start at least. Kengeri, Nagarbhavi, Magadi Road stretch. Kengeri already has metro, and the Silver line is planned on the other areas + PRR / STRR.
Anganwadi Turns 50!
Malnutrition is more than just a public health issue—it sets off a destructive cycle causing stunted growth, learning difficulties, school dropouts, illness, and lifelong inequality across generations.
It’s impossible to imagine the consequences had India not introduced a national program called ICDS (Anganwadi)
Millions have been lifted out of poverty, and despite ongoing challenges, millions more receive vital nutrition and early education through this initiative.
Good public policy transforms millions of lives. It delivers measurable outcomes, stands the test of time, weathers political shifts, and gradually drives social and economic progress by uplifting the most vulnerable.
Anganwadi/ICDS is a shining example of such transformative policy, targeting child malnutrition and early learning during the critical first 1000 days of life.
The true potential of our children can only be realized when malnutrition is effectively tackled with data-driven, scientifically grounded, context-specific solutions supported by adequate human and financial resources. Nearly 24 lakh women work as Anganwadi Workers and Helpers across more than 13 lakh Anganwadi centers nationwide. (despite their invaluable service, thousands protest on the streets every year, demanding better pay and benefits, and to not assign other work)
In India, few programs are enshrined as legal rights. The National Food Security Act of 2013 guarantees every child under 6 the right to nutrition, preschool education, and health checkups. The Mid Day Meal Scheme ensures hot cooked meals for government school children. Programs like the National Health Mission, RTE, and MGNREGA enjoy protected funding.
Spending time at any Anganwadi center reveals the program’s power and opportunities for strengthening it. Anganwadi is also key for increasing women’s participation in the workforce.
The biggest lesson for me is to observe how this program evolved over the decades. Maternal and child malnutrition are now routinely and systematically measured—and addressed urgently. ICDS is firmly embedded from Union to State, District, and Gram Panchayat levels, and you will notice them everywhere.
Much more needs to be done, particularly in urban areas where there is significant migrant worker population and on early childhood education in addition to nutrition
Kudos to all the political leaders, officials and most importantly the lakhs and lakhs of Anganwadi Teachers and Helpers on the 50th Anniversary!
@SouthEastBlr @OfficialBMRCL@ChristinMP_@pradeep_c_k@meavinash6262@shar_567 No major metro network in the world provides 4W parking around metro stations. Of course Namma metro needs a couple of decades to get to being comparable to any major metro network. For now, more feeder buses to do the last mile. Agree on 2W parking need
