A localized ceasefire allowed a humanitarian mission to enter Russian-occupied Oleshky, Ukraine, on Friday. A convoy of buses, ambulances and aid vehicles was set to bring food and medicine and help residents who want to leave; about 2,000 people remain in the city. The White House says Melania Trump helped broker the truce, while Pope Leo XIV had also urged Russia and Ukraine to allow aid and evacuations. Fighting continued elsewhere, so the pause is limited to the area around Oleshky.
Binance says a security incident had an estimated $6.3 billion impact after unauthorized withdrawals were made from its wallets. Blockchain analysis firms TRM Labs and Chainalysis attribute the attack to TraderTraitor, a North Korean hacking group, though Binance says it has not confirmed who was responsible. About $3 billion in affected assets have been frozen, and Binance says it will cover user losses. The exchange temporarily suspended withdrawals while it investigates.
An August clip shows Alaska Senate candidate Mary Peltola saying, “It should be a criminal offense to lie or mislead the electorate,” during a discussion of a Welsh law on deliberately misleading voters. The National Republican Senatorial Committee recirculated the clip after The New York Times reported that people connected to Peltola’s campaign allegedly helped recruit another candidate named Dan Sullivan, potentially splitting votes from Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan. Peltola has denied knowing about the effort, which remains under investigation. On Polymarket, Peltola is around 71% to win and Sen. Sullivan around 29%, with roughly $2.1 million in volume.
