A few months ago, headlines across India lit up with a heartbreaking story — an Indian woman, alone and vulnerable, living on the streets of Chicago. The news cycle moved on. The world moved on... 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐀𝐢𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧’𝐭.
𝗛𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗲 — it is a story of resilience and the difference a community can make. She had come to the United States full of promise, pursuing her second master’s degree in engineering. But mental illness does not discriminate. During her time here, she became disoriented and slipped into homelessness. In that vulnerable state, she was assaulted and robbed — her bag stolen, along with her identification and passport. Alone in a foreign country, without documents, without family, and without a way home.
When a social worker Lucia, discovered 𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐀𝐢𝐝 online and reached out, we immediately sprang into action. We connected with the Honorable Consul General of India in Chicago, 𝐌𝐫. 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐆𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐡, whose team went above and beyond — expediting her travel documents, coordinating logistics, and ensuring no detail was left to chance.
𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐋𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐚, 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦, 𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐀𝐢𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫 — 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝐛𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩 — 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚, 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫. 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘆, 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲, 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗿.
Here is what Lucia, the social worker who made that first call for help, had to say:
❝ This successful reunification was made possible only through the dedication, coordination, and unwavering commitment of your TEAM Aid volunteers. I am deeply appreciative of your efforts and remain in awe of the impact your organization continues to make. Thank you for being a source of hope and compassion during critical moments. ❞
𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐀𝐢𝐝 𝐢𝐬. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐭𝐚𝐠. 𝐀 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐮𝐩, 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬.
On behalf of the entire Indian community, we extend our deepest gratitude to Lucia, Consul General Mr. Ghosh, and his dedicated consulate team, and her uncle for their extraordinary care and commitment.

Happy to know that you were finally able to contact them and @IndiainSeattle agreed to issue the Emergency Certificate (EC) on Monday. They have also requested that the tweet be deleted; please go ahead and do so. I am especially happy because while my 91-year-old mother was undergoing surgery this morning, a Stage 4 cancer patient approached me seeking assistance for an Emergency Certificate, as his last wish is to return to India. I immediately reached out to the Consulate General of India in New York, @IndiainNewYork and I am grateful that they issued the EC today without any delay. ( in less than 90 mins )Wishing you happy journey and praying for the patient’s safe journey home.

thank you 🙏for your tireless efforts and personal intervention on humanitarian issues concerning Indian nationals in Kazakhstan. Your commitment to the welfare of Indian students and your engagement with the highest authorities are deeply appreciated. We are grateful for your leadership, compassion, and unwavering support of the Indian community.
Had the privilege to call on the Prosecutor General, the highest-ranking law enforcement authority heading the unified and centralized system of state prosecution bodies. Raised humanitarian concerns and requested leniency for the 6 Indian medical students under detention, while also discussing legal issues faced by Indian nationals. Deeply appreciate the Prosecutor General’s positive response and assurance to look into the matter.
