Good Mr. Baxter: Sketches of effective, Gospel-centered leadership from the life of Richard Baxter https://t.co/G5BZQtgEHq #Amazon via @Amazon
Years ago, a friend asked me to write this book. I thought I would update and expand it this year, but have decided to let this be my final word, in print, about Richard Baxter. There are a number of reasons for this decision. First, when researching it over 30 years ago, only a very few small to medium-sized biographies were out there. But, academic interest in Baxter exploded anew, and unlike Baxter studies in the 20th century, popular books have followed on those coattails this time around. Books by excellent researchers and writers are abundant now. Second, my book was primarily written for a niche audience, though I sought to make it engaging and interesting enough for any reader. The great reviews and reception this small book received have indicated modest success, and it remains relevant. I was particularly pleased and surprised when it was cited twice in an address at a conference held years ago at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where I was in attendance. Finally, I don't feel as if I have much, if anything, to add to Baxter-world that hasn't already been covered. Whatever I do find of interest or newsworthy going forward, I will write about in blog posts and on social media. I will also continue to post quotes by Baxter with commentary or background.
@megbasham@ZachWLambert Where are those numbers coming from? Do they break down that statistic between men and women as perpetrators somewhere? How about the alleged victims?
One of my favorite sentences in the 1689 is ch. 2 par. 2: God does not derive any glory from creatures, but only manifests his own glory in, by, unto, and upon them.
On our best days the most we can ever be is a jar of clay.
The glory always belongs to God. Did. Does. Always.
@HwsEleutheroi@Manhattva In July, my wife and I celebrate 50 years — married in a non-traditional, occult ceremony in Santa Monica. Thank you Jesus for delivering us 45+ years ago.
