He declares: “Today, on the eve of Tisha B’Av… we come here with dignity and splendor, in the fullness of our Jewishness and faith.” Tisha B’Av is a Jewish day of mourning commemorating the destruction of the Jewish Temples.

Ateret Yerushalayim is closely connected to the Ateret Cohanim settler organization, which plays a central role in the forced eviction of Palestinians and settler takeover of their homes in the Old City and surrounding Palestinian neighborhoods, including Silwan.
