The 3 layer modes I mainly use are Multiply, Overlay, and Screen. Multiply is for blocking in the overall light and shadow, Overlay to punch up the colors in illuminated areas, and Screen for glowing effects. If the object has a really strong glow, I might add a Color Dodge layer
