So, hello. Missed you. Things are good. Traveled a LOT. Last year had some rough times, which happens. E amazes me every day—17yo & just finished college applications. Any friends, acquaintances, goofballs I know: How are you? @petitegourmande?
I skipped all of 2023! It's just the constant dialed-to-eleven response everyone has to *everything* is not super compatible with also having a teenager for me. My heart was tired. But, I miss sharing little things with my online squad.
You know when ppl say, "I'm taking a COMPLETE break from social media! Goodbye for AGES!" and they make it all of 2 days? Well, I was starting to be stressed about the nonstop intense info so I thought I would just take a teensy recentering pause—and...it lasted 14 months?!
I’m quizzing E for her astro final. So fun! We hop btwn efficient, fill in the blank, definitions & obvious wrong statements that need correcting. This morning I said this: “comets are primarily made up of nutella & toast crumbs.” After the laughter, she corrected me…correctly.
We weren’t out specifically to celebrate Matt’s birthday, but it was his birthday and we all ate so much of the best things and he got cheesecake, which is his favorite…and that little extra bit of joy about existing is something I treasure.
Little appreciation post. We went out to dinner with friends & ate gorgeous food & laughed & filled our lives with joy. Joy is like armor against sorrow & *waves hands*. Also, I haven’t had a haircut since July but my hair looked *fucking fabulousss*, adding to the joy reservoir.
If Twitter crashes and you need to find me, the hell you will. I've got a two day head start on you, which is more than I need. I speak a dozen languages, know every local custom, I'll blend in, disappear, you'll never see me again.
In a weird way, I think that the destruction of this platform by an arrogant billionaire with no understanding of how humans interact with one another sort of brought us all closer together again.
We comfort-watched an episode of @nbcbrooklyn99 yesterday: The Swedes. My daughter & I both studied Norwegian during the pandemic, which is close enough to Swedish that we caught a joke we never would’ve gotten when it aired. The gem: Köttbulle Diamant. Meatball diamond!🤣
My teen cracks jokes she knows will send me into cascades of cackles all the time. Yesterday’s was: “There are two wolves inside you. One is Strindberg. The other is Helium.” (I love that we have shared our niche faves w/ her over the years.)
Breaking News: Brazil has ousted President Jair Bolsonaro, rebuking the far-right incumbent and electing Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, a former leftist leader known as Lula. https://t.co/MDBobxeF50
My extended family in a nutshell: my dad sends out a link to Astronomy Photo of the Day from @NASA to the family chat & asks for our bday photos. Over the next 10min, each of us sends in favorite astro photos that fell on our bdays. Nerds, every single one of us.❤️
@TraveleatloveMM Uh-oh. Need some help coming up with costumes from the closet? Got a plaid shirt, a knit cap, and a leftover box to cut an axe shape from? Lumberjack!
We’re nearing the end of a 10wk trip of learning, nature, visiting friends, living. Today’s the day we ship back all the books we’ve bought. Um. We buy a lot of books.😳 We factored the shipping cost in when we bought the books, but thank goodness for the postal book rate.
