A lot of people ask: why don't those civilians leave? Why are there still 1,600 civilians still in Lyman?
Well, some cant leave, but most, who have remained there for the 5 years of war, choose to stay there, either because they are waiting for the Russian Army as "liberators" or because they have lived in their house their whole lives and don't know anything else. By this stage of a battle, its usually a combination of both.
One quite striking example was, when earlier this year where the frontline looked something like what is shown on the map, some of the civilians in Shandryholove, which was under Russian control at the time, would simply walk down the road from the village, cross over the frontline, and enter Ukrainian-controlled Svyatohirsk to buy food and medicine from a shop there, and then simply return back across the frontline to their homes and basements in Shandryholove.
This is, of course, only able to occur due to the very small number of soldiers on each side actually concentrated along the frontline, and those who are there being hidden away to avoid being detected by drones.
Something similar occurred in the Vovchansk direction earlier this year, where civilians living in the villages of Lyman and Synelnykove would walk south to the village of Buhaivka to buy food and medicine from a store and then return across the frontline to their homes. In Kostyantynivka, some older civilians would drive to Druzhkivka (before the city was on the frontline) to collect their pensions, and then return to Kostyantynivka, where fighting was already taking place within the city at the time.
@LenaPetrovaOnX 2. In 🇦🇺 it is verboten to discuss such matters, even as our 'support'
"is materially contributing to the destruction of 🇺🇦"
Why?
Because as I point out 👇 from @dfat
“Our national response reflects our commitment to the rules‐based world order.”
https://t.co/NpOTSbGrFT
Zelensky: “We can’t hold elections during wartime. Our Constitution forbids it! Where’s the NAFO army? Come on, guys, tell everyone!”
Also Zelensky: “Tell Putin to give us a 60-day ceasefire, and we’ll organize elections.”🤡
Well, well, well. Turns out the impossible becomes perfectly possible when the Grand Puppet Master demands it. Who knew the Constitution came with an emergency on/off switch?
And apparently, a ceasefire becomes rather urgent when everything around you is falling apart — instead of “winning,” as professional war profiteers keep assuring us.
Funny how reality has this nasty habit of ruining a perfectly profitable victory narrative.
@xxx708894233@UgnajUgnaj@leckie_cameron@grok You don't seem to understand English either. I've explicitly said US power projection and that's in the context of the US pulling out of the INF treaty.
@xxx708894233@UgnajUgnaj@leckie_cameron@grok You just parrot the same rubbish without any reasoning. The Baltics being part of NATO is not something Russia likes.
As I've said Latvia is geographically and strategically not as crucial as Ukraine.
You're just wasting everyone's time with no facts to back you up.
@xxx708894233@UgnajUgnaj@leckie_cameron@grok That's not what the Russians think, Latvia is small and forested. Ukraine is closer, wide and flat. You have NFI, many strategists like Keenan have said Ukraine is the ultimate red line.
Ukraine provokes all of Russia's worst paranoid fears like Barbarossa.
@xxx708894233@UgnajUgnaj@leckie_cameron@grok That's not going to happen you moron. Russia will up it and if they keep doing this the US will be dragged into a full exchange. Russia can go nearly all the way for Ukraine, it's vital for their security. The US can't do the same.
@xxx708894233@UgnajUgnaj@leckie_cameron@grok Because the US is only aggressive to weak non-nuclear states you fool. Against a nuclear power they are too scared to risk their own destruction. That's why they are too scared to put boots on the ground or escalate in Ukraine.
@xxx708894233@UgnajUgnaj@leckie_cameron@grok Re-unification is a must for the Chinese, why should the West or anyone else interfere? Why do they need nukes? Are you stupid or something?
There is backlash for using nukes so it won't be done unless absolutely necessary.
@xxx708894233@UgnajUgnaj@leckie_cameron@grok The mentally challenged retard is you. China doesn't need nukes to defeat the USN or the Taiwanese military. There is no tit for tat solution to Ukraine and Taiwan because both are expendable to the US compared to Russian and Chinese interests so in the end and they'll fold.
@xxx708894233@UgnajUgnaj@leckie_cameron@grok Ukraine is existential to Russia. Russia will not allow Ukraine to win and join NATO and point missiles and US bases right next to them. NATO expansion has been strongly opposed by Russia and Ukraine is the last straw.
@xxx708894233@UgnajUgnaj@leckie_cameron@grok You don't seem to understand US forward power projection and their so called 'forward deterrence' is actually creating dangerous nuclear security dilemmas.
You also delude yourself the US a benign state that makes the world a safer place.
@xxx708894233@UgnajUgnaj@leckie_cameron@grok This is just delusional fantasy.
US retaliating with attack on Russian forces in Ukraine due to Russia nuking Ukraine won't make Russia back down on Ukraine. Ukraine is existential to Russia.
China nuking Taiwan is such a stupid take. No one serious will believe that.
@xxx708894233@UgnajUgnaj@leckie_cameron@grok This is just your ideological rubbish about Tibet and Xinjiang. They were both historically either under Chinese suzerainty or under Chinese dynastics.
If you want to see very aggressive, have you looked at unprovoked US attacks on Venezuela and Iran recently?
@xxx708894233@UgnajUgnaj@leckie_cameron@grok A Russian nuclear umbrella for CSTO members close to Russia is not the same as justifying a US nuclear umbrella for NATO members close to Russia.
The former is protecting a sphere of influence interest, the latter is a potential excuse for forward power projection.
@xxx708894233@UgnajUgnaj@leckie_cameron@grok No one in their right mind thinks the CSTO is anywhere near the alliance NATO is. Furthermore the CSTO isn't within 1000km of Washington DC or New York.
There is no explicit policy that a conventional attack on a CSTO member will warrant a nuclear response.
