The new #EDPB Guidelines will further postpone the adoption of #privacy-preserving digital #advertising solutions. If everything requires consent, why stop short at less intrusive practices? “Consent or Pay” choices? A natural side-effect. #dataprotection

We are sharing some of our takeaways from @the_iapp '#PSR24 in Los Angeles last week. Primarily: #MyHealthMyData Act and Third Party/ Vendor management (audits, DPAs...) https://t.co/gxDP0cIifR
(for the provision of the service)
2. Some businesses may be requesting Washington-based AWS and Azure to store their data elsewhere, so as to avoid territorial scope. #privacy
Some key takeaways from the great #MyHealth#MyData session this morning at #PSR24
1. A binary all-encompassing consent request does not make much sense, as for it to be specific if would result in a burdensome process. Better instead to treat some uses as necessary
(for the provision the service requested by the consumer)
2. Some businesses may be requesting Washington-based AWS and Azure to store their data elsewhere, so as to avoid territorial scope
For the first time, a Customer Data Platform (#Segment - now Twilio), is subject to a class action. What’s most surprising -to us- is that the data controller (Calm app) is apparently off the hook despite having determined the purposes of such SDK. More: https://t.co/Q8jeIdFhEx
Apple introduces homomorphic encryption via Swift. A cryptographic technique that enables computations to be done on encrypted data without revealing the underlying unencrypted data in th process. For example during cloud computations. In short, the building blocks of privacy-preserving technologies, techniques or protocols. But there's more! Private Information Retrieval protocols! This allows building a database and retrieving information in ways that is private: only the client knows what information has been requested. The databases does not know what information the client requested. Yet, the client gets the data.
Why am I excited? I researched/used PIR ~15 years ago. In my Master's Thesis :-) https://t.co/hoBIorkxVk

I am very much looking forward to #PETS2024 in Bristol! If you attend PETS, do not miss @nrllah's talk on the effect of cookie banner interaction tools. Our work analyzes the impact of different tools that automatically interact with cookie notices.

Arthur Borem (U Chicago): Data Subject Access Requests result in a mostly poor experience: Individuals are both unable to explore the files they are given (Json!) and overwhelmed by their size and depth. It's very hard to obtain basic conclusions #PEPR24
The #Airbnb team was forced to build their own Consent Management Platform after verifying that off-the-shelf tools did not allow them to implement legal requirements in a consistent way. #CMP vendors would also fail at properly supporting different regions..#PEPR24#eprivacy
