Psychology says people who hate small talk but excel in deep conversations aren't socially awkward - they're socially selective, and the discomfort they feel in surface-level exchanges isn't shyness, it's the specific friction of a mind.... - VegOut https://t.co/upfshw36ia
Hemoglobin, the molecule that carries oxygen in humans, is damn near exactly the same as chlorophyll, the molecule that plants use for photosynthesis. The main difference is that at the core of hemoglobin is an Iron atom while in chlorophyll there is a Magnesium atom. They also share some precursor molecules.
There's a penguin in a documentary that breaks away from its colony and walks alone into the interior of Antarctica. 70 kilometers toward the mountains. No apparent reason. No possible future. Herzog asks "why?" and no one answers, because there is no answer.
I've been thinking a lot about that penguin lately. Because I think I know exactly what happened to it.
It didn't go insane. It didn't have a bad day. It simply reached the point where staying with the group, doing what everyone does, going where everyone goes... stopped making sense. And when that happens, when "normal" becomes unbearable, you're left with only one option: turn around and walk.
It doesn't matter that you don't know where you're going. It doesn't matter if it looks like madness from the outside. The only thing that matters is that staying feels worse than leaving.
That a lost penguin on the ice is the most relatable thing I've seen lately should tell me something. And I think it already does.
