Let Imagine the man who attempted to assinate Donald Trump was a Muslim
1. Anti Muslims forces across Nigeria would have been posting, sharing, tagging and reposting the news by now
2. The anti Muslims forces would have used the suspect to Generalize the generality of Muslims as terrorists
3. Today being Sunday, the news would have been a topic of discussion on the church alter by Pastors as justification that Muslims are terrorists and killers
4. Islam and Muslims would been suffering attacks on the media, social media handles, and across Churches, beer parlours, clubs, and so on
5. Muslims would have been blamed as sponsors of violence and insecurity globally
6.The religion of Islam would have been accused of promoting extremism and hatred
7. Innocent Muslims would have been profiled, monitored, and treated with suspicion in public places
8. There would have been calls for restrictions on Muslim gatherings, mosques, and activities
9.Some people would have used it to justify discrimination against Muslims in jobs, schools, and public life
10. The incident would have been exaggerated and used to spread fear and propaganda against Muslims
11. It could have been used to deepen division and incite hostility between communities
Now that the suspect Mr. Cole Allen is found not to be a Muslim, there won't be any deafening noises of using the suspect to attack Muslims and Islam.
The anti Muslims forces will only scroll past the news, not being interested to their eyes and ears.
The only news that will remain relevant to them is issues around Boko Haram and banditry, because it involves Muslims and also affects Muslims.
All of this is rooted from the lies being spewed against Islam, deep-seated hatred, media stereotyping, intentional demonization, and the criminalisation of an entire faith for the actions of individuals who do not represent it.
My simple and sincere piece of advice:
let us be fair and consistent in how we judge others. No religion or group should be defined by the actions of a single individual. Just as you would not want to be judged by the wrongdoing of others who share your identity, extend that same understanding to Muslims. Promote truth over bias, unity over division, and justice over selective narratives.
