Currently employed as a probation officer, Masters degree student (Criminology and Criminal Psychology). Passionate about desistance. Blunt instrument.
@jay18170051@SamworthNeil@blonde1_pierre My advice to all service users: use your right to complain. If you feel you are being treated unfairly, complain. If a PO is spiteful or inept, managers need to know. If the system is at fault, the service needs to change.
@jay18170051@SamworthNeil@blonde1_pierre I would support not 'trusting' your PO, it isn't that type of relationship. After all you have far more to lose than they do. I think both parties should understand what the relationship is, cultivating mutual communication on that basis.
@Fckmasks @SamworthNeil@blonde1_pierre It's not in the least flippant. Recall decisions are made at 4 levels of management. Even the most punitive PO could not get a recall passed for someone being 10 minutes late.
@blonde1_pierre@SamworthNeil I'm sorry to hear about your son, I have an autistic daughter. I have a great deal to say about the way the criminal justice system mistreats neuro divergent and learning disabled cases. Also about the way families are treated and excluded.
@SamworthNeil@blonde1_pierre The issue to examine then is whether probation are making the right risk assessments based on valid criteria or whether they are responding to personal prejudice.
@SamworthNeil@blonde1_pierre Black men are more likely to be over risked, and therefore managed over robustly. I'm sure you would understand, if probation assess someone as highly likely to seriously hurt someone, probation are more likely to act decisively if there are increased concerns
@deankingham@psycovery@Elsie2127 There was a really interesting inspection report by HMIPP about SFO investigations and the culture of fear that is being created.
@psycovery@deankingham@Elsie2127 What I would say, is staff don't want to recall. That really is a myth. What we want is a quiet life with no nasty surprises and for people to get through their licence without us making each other miserable, and to never return to the system again.
@psycovery@deankingham@Elsie2127 The pendulum has swung in the other direction. Directors, seniors and front line staff have dire warnings ringing in their ears. We can't make fair decisions in this kind of atmosphere. Therefore the 'recall first, ask questions later' approach is in danger of returning...
