@dannykellywords Hi Danny, VFTL and THFC fan,thinking of you in this struggle. I’ve had stage IV cancer since 2009 and last week got ‘signed off’ from cancer surveillance as ten years with no issues. Everyone has their own journey, just plodding on when it got hard was key for me. All the best.

It seems we are more disgusted by sex offences than the act of murder. Ruining someone’s life is condemned more than taking it. This hierarchy exists in prison as well as out.

We know that support of loved ones can make a difference to desistance when people who’ve committed acts that have harmed others are released from prison. Ostracising them increases their risk.

Instead of building more prison spaces, we could make it safer for people to be in the community by ensuring support is available. Helping them build bridges to their community and repair relationships with their secondary victims, those who know and love them who are also harmed by their acts.

What’s it like to stand by someone who’s committed a sexual offence? How do you recover from this trauma?
