“…But if the Supreme Court is ever composed of imprudent men or bad citizens, the Union may be plunged into anarchy or civil war.” - Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America, 1831
“The President, who exercises a limited power, may err without causing great mischief in the State. Congress may decide amiss without destroying the Union, because the electoral body in which Congress originates may cause it to retract its decision by changing its members…
Isaac Asimov - 44 years ago. Never gets old, it seems.
“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”

Today, we pause to commemorate the Farhud, a cruel and bloody pogrom that unfolded 83 years ago against Iraqi Jews.
Its consequences were far-reaching, marking the beginning of the expulsion of Jews from Arab lands and forever changing their lives.
The combination of social distancing, masks and vaccines saved over 800,000 US lives during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to scientists who ran calculations and computer modeling
I'm not usually a fan of Cory Booker, but I commend him for spending his time explaining his opinion of the ceasefire deals as they disrespected him over and over.
"Hamas is a terrorist organization is holding Americans, holding Canadians, Mexicans, people of many different backgrounds. They refused to release them. Should they release the hostages, we would have a ceasefire right now."
"You say that Hamas has made an acceptable offer, and I am telling you this terrorist organization, who puts children and families and schools and hospitals, literally commits what is in definition a war crime."
"O now we want to talk about war crimes."
For more than 30 years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has built a regional empire dedicated to killing Israelis, exporting the revolution, and destroying or subduing Israel and any other country that does not agree to be part of its influence.
If not for Iran, October 7 would not have happened. The second Lebanon war would not have occurred. The country most supportive of Hamas, Hezbollah, and Islamic Jihad is Iran. The amount of money, time, and blood dedicated by Iran to this fundamentalist project were immense.
The world was silent. At best, it tried to limit Iran's nuclear development. Now, hours ago, Iran has initiated a direct attack against Israel. What Iran is doing is not about the Arab- Israeli conflict. It has sought and seeks now to implement the vision laid out by the first Supreme Leader, Khomeini - to destroy American influence in the region, to annihilate Israel.
This should be a watershed moment. If the West fails to see what is threatened by Iran, Russia, and the rest, if it does not recognize that these developments are a manifestation of an attempt to destroy the liberal order itself, then we face grave consequences. It's not about the nuclear deal, it's not about Gaza, it's not about history. It's about fundamentalism, nationalism, and dictatorship.

2024 Republican primary/caucus results:
Iowa: 49% voted for someone other than Trump
New Hampshire: 45% voted for someone other than Trump
South Carolina: 40% voted for someone other than Trump
Trump got below 60% of the vote in South Carolina. It was more narrow than polls suggested. Some media portray this as a huge Trump win. It's not when in a Republican primary 40% want someone other than the previous Republican President. Biden won SC with 96% of the vote.
Charles Lindbergh speaking in 1940:
“I’ve been forced to the conclusion that we can’t win this war for England regardless of how much assistance we send”
If Lindberg would’ve been listened to, there would’ve been a Nazi Europe from Lisbon to Vladivostok
