A small specialty (2% of anaesthesia caseload) but
-very comorbid patients
-a high proportion of older & very urgent surgery
-major, complex bloody surgery!

Themes that emerged from the vascular analysis in #NAP7
Of note although haemorrhage was the commonest cause of cardiac arrest vascular was the only sub-specialty in which it was the commonest cause
Vascular also had some niche causes - eg reperfusion, hyperkalaemia
Themes around advisability of surgery & futility were more common in vascular than any other area in NAP7
