Learned today that @UNC is moving to Pass/Fail for undergrads. They also created a new grade for those affected by COVID-19 called CV as an alternative to IN, which will give students three additional months to complete work. Well done. Others should follow their lead.
Picked up some stuff from the office and I'm sitting here, ready to leave, and I just keep crying. I know it's stupid, but it really feels like the world is never going to be the same. I'm worried for my students. I'm worried about the tiny life I've built.
@MS_Sociology @AcademicChatter I give it as an option, because last week, it was all my students wanted to talk about. It'd be dumb not to give them a chance to channel that into writing about it. However, they have 4 other topics to choose from. Maybe we can trust our students to take care of themselves?
@ChrisYandle @AcademicChatter Great, can you tell me how I'm supposed to show my students a Netflix episode when accessibility issues mean I can't presume all my students have a Netflix sub or the bandwidth to play it?
Online is not the same as f2f. Any prof who loves their job knows it.
Since all my students somehow think campus will give them coronavirus but not, say, the Starbucks they had last week, I'm honestly not even sure what I'm supposed to do in class today with the few who do show up.
@AcademicChatter Face to face. I need to see the campus, honestly. Interviews go both ways--I want to see if I want to work there, too! I want to see the classrooms, the library, the student spaces, etc.
I honestly don't believe any of the BS stories about 'the computer mysteriously refreshed on me'. They're digital natives. They cannot be this bad at the internet.
But if they are, woe betide them if we go fully online.
Posted repeatedly that I was not online on Tuesday nights. Posted last evening that the exam was due at midnight and that, as I said, I will not be around. Posted "there will be no reopening of exams".
Guess what I have in my inbox this morning?
