@zekeboy99 The mission with THIS superintendent or the next one? or the last one? or the one before him? (said to point out what my school faces with a revolving door of leaders)
@DoughneyJ absolutely. the Individualistic countries are good at focusing on individual futures and the problem happens when we want large systems to jump into play. i think it can be done (space race) but it's hard and COSTS MONEY
A7 The degree of comfort that teachers feel with the change to a new system from a personal aspect. The change could threaten the privilege of groups of people for the betterment of minority groups. This is unacceptable to many on school boards. #edle6580
A7: Maintaining direction (ongoing assistance) - continuous improvement cycles and evaluation plans with adequate follow up and address misconceptions are oftentimes overlooked when initiating change #scratchbeyondthesurface#EDLE6580
A7 .....This is sometimes researched as “change uncertainty” and is a component of culture that is measured when learning about systems. If the culture of the school is such that change uncertainty is not tolerated well the facilitator has a much harder job. #edle6580
A6 Sust. Innov. Can be seen as more of the same where the new fits the current status quo. Disrupt. Challenge the system and the culture of that system and thus are difficult to implement. #edle6580
First we have to have a good understanding of the culture we espouse in the first place. We can't change something in our culture if we don't know that it's even "a thing" that is possible to change. Fish don't know they're in water.
Q5 @ MIS, we have made a concentrated effort of ensuring that each teacher new to our campus get a mentor for at least one year. I hope that we are encouraging teachers to keep these professional relationships alive accross the years in order to institutionalize change. #EDLE6580
A5 Example: Incorporating more Restorative Practices into our already existing Discipline Plan. How can we move towards RP without abandoning a system that proves to be successful? What are we already doing that can be tweaked to be more restorative? #EDLE6580
A5 I’m planning some disruptive innovations that address areas not currently managed by the TCC system. How high up does my support really go? #edle6580
@DoughneyJ @cgaschen@AshleeGraham84@adamptoy Time is always a variable as people even understand the concept of time differently depending on whether their culture is monochronic or polychronic.... so much to work on here.
If adopting change is monitored (as it must be to take effect) then something else has to give. Of course, my idea is to reach into a big bag of money and fund education........
@professormeyers Yes. As long as the funds are designated in the Campus Improvement Plan and meet the criteria under the regulations. We pay two extra teachers and provide support for RtI students using 3 "academic coaches" 15 hours per week. #EDLE6580
We are asking for nothing less than the evaluation and implementation of a new culture of schools that is somehow supposed to supplant the old one with people who are indoctrinated with the old one as well. Huge ask #EDLE6580
It is only complicated because I think so many who control purse strings have a "cut that and that but not this (fave project)" mentality. If we started from zero and rebuilt a budget..... hmmmm
@adamptoy@professormeyers I feel pretty strongly about hiring more people. We can can put minds together to come up with creative things to do AND with more people have the time to build genuine connections which is what kids need...not shiny things. But I know school finance is complicated. #EDLE6580
@AshleeGraham84@professormeyers YES! Example - we moved from spending title funds on the purchase of books, programs, websites, etc to paying for people to actually come into the school to work directly with kids. THAT has been our biggest lever in the last 3 years. #EDLE6580
