A dedicated public health leader with extensive experience from rural medicine to global policy. #HealthforAll
On International Day of Women and Girls in Science, I am proud to work alongside so many remarkable women across REACH and our national programmes.
From the field to the laboratory to national leadership, their expertise and commitment are saving children’s lives across West Africa.
We must continue to support and elevate women and girls in science.

On #InternationalDayOfWomenAndGirlsInScience, we celebrate the women powering the REACH Network — from community health workers to national leaders, scientists to economists.
They generate the data.
They lead delivery.
They monitor AMR.
They translate evidence into policy.
And together, they are driving down preventable mortality in children aged 1–59 months across West Africa.
From the field to the boardroom, women are front and centre of REACH — ensuring interventions are equitable, effective, and grounded in rigorous science.

Good meeting with Colonel Assa Badiallo Touré, Mali’s Minister of Health.
I commended the Ministry for the successful nationwide health consultation led by the President, a strong step toward people-centred care.
Mali’s progress on immunization and the introduction of the malaria vaccine is commendable.
At @WHOAFRO, we’re proud to support efforts to strengthen PHC, boost domestic investment, and advance #HealthForAll.
I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Sir David Nabarro, a remarkable public servant and a true giant in global health.
I had the honour of working closely with David over many years, including during some of the world’s most challenging health emergencies. As Special Envoys of the WHO Director-General for COVID‑19, we shared a deep commitment to supporting countries and communities through crisis with compassion, science and partnership.
We also worked side by side during the West Africa Ebola outbreak. David, as the United Nations Special Envoy on Ebola, and I, as the Ebola Coordinator for Mali and Special Advisor to the President, shared the burden of responding quickly and effectively to protect lives and prevent spread. His leadership during that time, marked by humility, courage and clarity, made a lasting impression on all of us.
David’s legacy goes far beyond titles. He was a generous mentor, a tireless advocate for health equity, and someone who brought wisdom and warmth wherever he went. His voice carried weight because it came from a place of deep experience and integrity.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to his wife Flo, his children and grandchildren, and all who had the privilege to know and work with him. His loss is deeply felt, but his impact will continue through the many lives he touched and inspired.
Thank you David for everything. May you rest in peace
It was an honour and a privilege to join @billgates to celebrate 25 years of progress with @GatesFoundation at the African Union’s Nelson Mandela Hall this morning.
I am proud to have been able to share a stage with inspiring leaders. We will walk the road together to a better future, greater health equity and improved data-in-action. For the benefit of communities the length and breadth of Africa.

#WHA78: How do we save more children’s lives?
In Geneva, the REACH Network convened Ministers of Health and partners around the world for a results-driven conversation on reaching every child, ending preventable deaths, and ensuring children thrive. @ChrisJElias@ProfessorSow
Every year, 5 million children die before their 5th birthday—most from causes we can prevent. At #WHA78, the REACH Network, with the unwavering support of @muhammadpate, united Ministers and partners to say: enough is enough. It's time for bold, country-led, & collaborative action. #ChildSurvival #REACHNetwork #CommunityEngagement #PrimaryHealthCare

The REACH Network is proud to be at #WHA78, where myself and @muhammadpate as co-chairs, are hosting a high-level ministerial meeting on child survival.
At a time of constrained global financing, we believe that country ownership, regional collaboration, and integrated delivery are essential to saving lives and maintaining progress.
This meeting plans to explore how countries in the REACH Network can lead the charge on child survival – drawing on the collective, regional collaboration of the REACH Network, as outlined in the Abuja Declaration – to deliver cost-effective, evidence-based interventions where they are needed most.
