@HewittNewton@ForeignPolicy What alliances? Those he formerly had with Panama, Venezuela, Cuba, and Iran are all up in smoke. His rivals (Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Philippines, S. Korea, Japan, Australia) are all moving closer to the US.
@tanpukunokami For the past 40 years I have been purchasing (and drinking) approximately two gallons of milk every week just for myself. Neither my wife nor my kids (now on their own) ever drank more than a small fraction of it. But then I grew up on a dairy farm.
My argument that refining constraints are contributing to higher diesel prices was called “silly” and “wrong.” But the International Energy Agency’s September 17 report supports exactly that point:
• Russian diesel production has fallen nearly 30%.
• Lost Russian and Middle Eastern exports have tightened global diesel supplies.
• Higher American shipments only partly filled the gap.
• That shortage has pushed diesel prices higher relative to crude oil.
The IEA also says the OECD refining system is close to its practical limit for diesel and related fuels. And American refineries are running at like 97-98% capacity right now.
That’s why I asked: Who supports building and expanding American refineries?
More capacity here would give us more options when supplies overseas are disrupted. Building takes years—which is precisely why you start BEFORE the emergency, something Democrats have fought tooth and nail over the decades.
The last major greenfield refinery with significant downstream unit capacity built from scratch remains Marathon's facility in Garyville, Louisiana, which came online in 1977.

There's no evidence of bad behavior by Jack Smith, say reporters. But he collected texts from dozens of journalists & Congressmen, and 4,782 cashed checks from donors. Reporters excuse these unprecedented abuses of power because they crave mass prosecution of MAGA Republicans.
@peggyflanagan Q: Who shipped pallets of cash to the Iranian mullahs?
A: Obama
Q: Who drained the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to benefit politically from a temporary dip in gas prices?
A: Biden
Hello everyone! I’m Simon, a chemist based in France. 👋
I finished my PhD in chemistry aged 24. Yes, that’s me aged 24 in the photo. I’m in my lab from 22 years ago making a ruthenium based metathesis catalyst.
Since then, I’ve spent >20 years working in science, from making molecules in the lab to innovation in agriculture.
On the side, I play double bass and saxophone and talk about chemistry, food, AI and science on here.
Looking to connect with people interested in science, technology and how the world actually works.
Don’t be shy and say hi! 👋
EPA has repealed the rule that would have closed most of America's coal plants. The grid's own reliability regulator says 13 of its 23 assessment areas face resource adequacy problems over the next ten years. Those plants are staying. #FriendsOfCoal
🚨#BREAKING: Outrage is erupting after a 22-year-old who runs into BURNING BUILDINGS as a volunteer firefighter was told he isn't qualified to be a paid firefighter...
...because he was HOMESCHOOLED.
Then the city changed the job posting to cover it up.
His name is Andrew Coates. He's 22 years old, in Nebraska.
Right now, today, he runs into burning buildings as a volunteer firefighter for Cedar Bluffs Fire. He is a state-licensed EMT.
He is doing the job. For free.
All he wanted was to get PAID to do it. In his words: "Make a career out of it would be the goal. To get paid to do what you love."
So he applied to the Fremont Fire Department.
And in April, the city rejected him. Why?
Because his high school diploma says he was homeschooled.
That's it. That's the whole disqualification.
Not his EMT license.
Not his fitness.
Not his record.
Not his experience pulling people out of fires ALREADY!!
...how he was educated.
The job posting he applied to said "graduation from high school."
That's all it said.
He graduated high school.
He has a diploma.
And AFTER they rejected him, the city went back and added the word "accredited" to the job description.
His own fire chief, the man who has watched Andrew work, showed up to defend him:
"I feel the city of Fremont is really missing out here, and in my mind, because of his homeschooling, you guys are discriminating against him."
Over THIRTY homeschool families showed up to stand behind this kid.
And the Civil Service Commission? They said it isn't their job to touch city policy.
Homeschoolers are literally a generation of kids who read ABOVE grade level, who work with their HANDS, who volunteer in their communities, who show up for their neighbors.
And this young man is the proof.
At 22, he's a certified EMT and a volunteer firefighter, while plenty of his peers are on a couch.
When your house is on fire at 3 a.m., I promise you will not ask the man dragging your children out where he went to high school.
You will not ask if his diploma was accredited.
You will thank GOD he came.
Andrew isn't even fighting for himself anymore. His words:
"I think now it's turned into we want to make sure that every homeschooler has an equal opportunity."
That's a better man than the policy that rejected him.
Fremont, you have a licensed EMT and an active firefighter begging to serve your city. And you turned him down over paperwork, then rewrote the paperwork to cover it.
Fix this.
Hire him!!!!!!!
