@laiyanhoeric So those same human rights the the rule of law protects are important to overseeing the carrying out of the rule of law in a mutually constitutive loop
@ShibaniMahtani@maryhui As a 2015 recipient of a Human Rights Press Award for commentary it saddens me that Hong Kong has descended so low that such awards cannot even be hosted in the city that created them.
For those who would like a more indepth update on Hong Kong than the SOAS podcast I posted earlier here is a longer Council on Foreign Relations webinar we recorded earlier this week: https://t.co/vzUm3Dbo6E
My discussion with Duncan Bartlett on the SOAS podcast China in Context. We dedicate 15 minutes to putting the current national security crackdown in Hong Kong in Contest: https://t.co/ig6kWnrNww
Have read the book, partly for my studies and research and partly for my respect to @profmikedavis whom I have known for many years but didn't have a chance to take his course while I was studying my master's degree in Law and Public Affairs back in 2004-2006 (he took up several visiting professorships in the US at that time). Highly recommend this book. Reading the book is like reading the recent history of the civil society of my hometown Hong Kong.
