One week on retrospective on #Trump's victory in #USElection2024. It's a 🎶 parody version of John Lennon & the @thebeatles "Come Together" - with what some might describe as brittle self awareness. Some more thoughts the full res. YouTube version: https://t.co/9Vovc5wSaU.
Congratulations to Philippa Gardner, Professor in @ICComputing, who has received a @bcs Ada Lovelace Medal 🥇
Professor Gardner received the award in recognition of her work on language specification, software verification and bug detection ⬇️

BREAKING: Barack Obama issues a DEVASTATING rebuke of last night’s Trump rally in a way only he could. This is a must watch. Retweet so all Americans see this.
Here's our last parody song about the #USElection2024. It's called "Bohemian Trumpsody" (based on the inimitable @QueenWillRock but with only six voices & no overdubs) & we've self-trolled in it as 'libtards' already, just to save folks time who might be offended 🎶🗳️🤞

Wow this is shady. Elon Musk is funding a PAC that’s running two ads against Kamala Harris with messages that directly contradict each other.
The opposing messages are microtargeted to specific groups of voters, so each see one ad, but neither see both.
Instrumentation-based profilers give nicely consistent results.
But on the JVM, they give wildly unrealistic results.
Though, we can do better!
Humphrey will present our work on Thursday at @MPLR_Conf.

Loved the sledge from 🇱🇰’s Kumara when he dismissed Lawrence in the 3rd Test against 🏴 . Lawrence had played a dreadful shot. “This isn’t T20, you know!”
Damned right. #TestCricket

Not a fan of short form cricket like The Hundred but yesterday’s women’s final was very tense, won with a 6 and only 2 balls left. I’ve never seen such a competitive player as Shabnim Ismail - wouldn’t like to drop a catch off her bowling!

I loved this podcast interview with Dominic Orchard @dorchard, a functional programmer and Haskell hacker extraordinaire who I hugely admire. He tells a wonderful story about how he became a functional programmer and his mission to try and spread functional programming in the world of scientific computing, as well as motivating his more recent work on climate. He even has a go at explaining comonads without a whiteboard! An utterly inspiring person, and I strongly recommend listening to this edition on the @HaskelInterlude.

🎉 GOOD NEWS: progressive policies like ULEZ are WORKING.
The results after six months of ULEZ expanding London-wide:
🌳 5 million Londoners are breathing cleaner air.
📈 London’s air quality is improving faster than the average for the rest of England.
