Just finished building my simple/minimalistic personal webpage which I used as an excuse to learn WebAssembly + @rustlang@rustwasm -> https://t.co/yNMXbbqkWf; source: https://t.co/I9RlXGIStY
@ylecun@Algon_33 So IMO only videos will not be enough for a truly autonomous intelligence. We need embodiment, which, I know, it’s much harder to add to the training mix.
@ylecun@Algon_33 In addition, those 16,000 hours of wake time are not just passive, rectangularly constrained videos of a 3rd person with no framing, but subjective, interactive, causal experiences with repercussions, where the child builds a character, personality and ultimately a world model.
I "made" a thing. During the holidays I learned about ray tracing from @Peter_shirley's Ray Tracing in One Weekend and wrote it in @rustlang instead of C++. The experience has been amazing! Check it out here: https://t.co/bRyfkz1Oh4
@deech The swing and groove features in music DAWs are made exactly for that - to mitigate the mechanistic sound, by randomizing the start/end time of launching clips. For more "humanness" than that - record your sample from a live band.
@deech As much as dislike tech and software creeping into the most human aspects of our lives, I must say software is *supposed* to be "grid-like", precise, and machinistic - because it gives structure to our already unstructured/imperfect ways of working. Grid-less spreadsheets?
Hinton’s “favorite Gary Marcus quote” argues that pure #deeplearning fails to understand language. I stand it by it: no current #AI system can understand a stories, articles, etc.
If you disagree w the quote, I’d like to hear your thoughts why.
The official @rustlang docs need some more design love/attention IMHO. e.g. the huge Iterator page often loads super slow since most of the contents is duplicated in the Implementors section? Can't these sections be hidden by default and/or fetched per click request?
Looking forward to the @rustlang talks at this year's @fosdem. Does anyone know if there will be some WASM workshops there as well? https://t.co/QpJjXNJ98F
“You're much better off using proven off-the-shelf models that have stood the test of time, are fast to train and easy to maintain. Even if they are 1% worse.”
Time is the best teacher.
@fchollet Indeed, but in many cases off-the-shelf generic solutions add more baggage to the final work and often you end up wasting more time to learn their inner workings + tweak them to your needs. Knowing when to rely on other peoples work vs rolling your own is truly wise engineering.
