Fergie Chambers has been arrested in Ibiza on a US extradition request and denied bail. He faces up to 20 years in a US prison. His alleged crime? “International money laundering” and providing “material support to Hamas”.

What does this “material support” consist of? It seems Chambers has used part of his fortune to fund humanitarian relief in Gaza: a quarter of a million dollars to the Sameer Project, which established a bakery producing 3,600 free loaves of bread a day; a desalination plant supplying 150,000 litres of clean water daily; a free clinic in Jabalia treating up to 300 patients a day; and a further hundred thousand dollars for mental-health care for orphaned children. The British-Palestinian surgeon Ghassan Abu Sitta calls him “a vital supporter for the provision of care for children wounded in the genocide”.

This is what the US Department of “Justice” wants to imprison him for: helping to provide food, water and medical services to the survivors of a genocide.

His real offence, of course, is engaging in solidarity against genocide, war and colonial occupation.

His arrest came on the very day Marco Rubio convened ministers from 60 countries to combat what the administration now calls “transnational far-left terrorism” – the criminalisation of the global movement for Palestinian liberation and against war on Iran, dressed up in the language of counter-terrorism.

This is an important test for Spain, which has spent the past couple of years cultivating a reputation as Western Europe’s conscience: condemning the genocide in Gaza, refusing to let the US use Spanish airspace for its war on Iran, positioning Pedro Sánchez as the one EU leader willing to stand up to Trump.

But principles have to go further than issuing press releases. If the Spanish state now hands Fergie Chambers to Trump’s rogue regime, those fine words are revealed as mere theatre. You cannot denounce the genocide in Gaza on Monday and extradite someone for feeding its victims on Tuesday.

The Audiencia Nacional will hear the case. What it decides will tell us whether Spain’s defiance of Washington is a matter of conviction or of convenience. Let’s see what side Spain is really on.

Most people “know” that Joseph Stalin was “evil”. But very few know that

- Under Stalin, and the Soviet Union set the world record for the quickest doubling of life expectancy from 32 to 68 in under 30 years, the quickest turnaround in history

- Literacy rates in the Soviet Union rose from a dismal 30% to 98.5%

- Women made up a third of Societ engineers and 79% of medical doctors

- Women in the ruling party went from 5 to 21%, at a time when Black and Native women in the United States were not allowed to vote

- Stalin took the Soviet Union to the second most industrialised nation globally in a decade, something that took Western capitalists centuries of colonial pillaging

- Healthcare, education, and childcare remained universal and were improved upon, hence the drastic increase in life expectancy

- Racist speech was criminalised!

- The Soviet Union defeated Japanese imperialism in both Manchuria and Korea

- Defeated Hitler and the Nazis

- Took a desperately underdeveloped society to a competing world Power with real, tangible outcomes

- Every national liberation movement that followed, Cuba, China, Vietnam, South Africa, all stood on Soviet shoulders

The popular Western political theory of “totalitarianism” which frames Stalin and Hitler as “twin monsters” of the 20th century is an ideological tool meant to hide the dark side of Western liberalism, specifically its history of White supremacy, the genocide of Indigenous peoples, colonialism, and chattel slavery, which actually served as the closest ideological inspirations for Nazism.

Western historians hypocritically isolate Stalin’s actions from the global context of the early 20th century, whereas in reality, the mechanisms of the Soviet state were the same things done by Western liberal democracies at the time.
For instance, France casually killed 10 million Algerians and tested an atomic bomb on their soil.

Westerners harp on about Stalin’s Gulags as if they were the same thing as Nazi extermination camps. In truth, the Gulag was a punitive penal system focused on forced labour and political re-education where redemption was officially possible, rather than a system designed for industrial racial extermination.

Meanwhile, the British in South Africa, the Germans in Namibia and the US with the Japanese population in the US, all used concentration camps when they thought it was necessary. A lot of projection going around.

In the end, Stalin was just a typical European leader. What sets him apart from the rest of the capitalist west, and why he is demonised is because he was attempting to build a socialist state while under total siege by civil war and foreign capitalist encirclement.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, a third time, a fourth time, and a million times more: as long as Messi is still playing football, he is the best player in the world, no matter where he plays or the level of competition around him.

Not Lamine Yamal, not Olise, not Kane, not Mbappé, and not anyone else.

What Messi does is far more difficult and far more valuable than goals, assists, statistics, tactics, or anything else that can be measured when comparing ordinary footballers.

Messi is a level of sustained excellence that lasted for 20 years straight—a level that even Maradona couldn’t maintain for a single month throughout his career.

Messi is the best and most accurate goalscorer in the world even when he’s nowhere near the penalty area, something neither Cristiano Ronaldo nor Pelé ever reached.

Messi’s first touch is better than Zidane’s. His ball control is more refined than Ronaldinho’s. His dribbling is better than Iniesta’s. And the crazy part is that these are the very qualities that made those legends special in the first place.

Messi is better than all of them at the one thing that defined them.

He’s a level above even that fictional player we used to create in PES and FIFA with every attribute maxed out and every ability unlocked.

As Aboutrika once said: “Messi is proof that God exists.”

Because honestly, it’s impossible to believe that someone like this happened by pure coincidence. 🐐🇦🇷❤️
