Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invite each other and all men and women everywhere to “come unto Christ.”
As a prophet has told us in the Book of Mormon: “I would that ye should come unto Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel, and partake of his salvation, and the power of his redemption” (Omni 1:26).
The Book of Mormon is a great witness that the Lord loves all people and reaches out to all, everywhere.
The Book of Mormon adds to our knowledge of how our Savior’s earthly ministry reached out to all of His scattered flock.
Book of Mormon teachings contradict the erroneous assertion that the grace of God saves only a chosen few.
The Book of Mormon teaches that our Savior "inviteth ... all to come unto him" (2 Nephi 26:33). His grace is for all.
Similarly, the Book of Mormon tells us that the children of God in “every nation” have His promise that He “manifesteth himself unto all those who believe in him, by the power of the Holy Ghost” (2 Nephi 26:13).
These promises from the Book of Mormon are true.
I call upon all to act on these truths and to share them with others, that we may all draw closer to Jesus Christ, our Savior.
Bible Word Study: FAITH (1/3)
In Hebrew, faith means holding steady.
The root is aman (אָמַן, H539): firm, supported, reliable. "Amen" comes from it.
The noun is emunah (אֱמוּנָה, H530): firmness, steadfastness, faithfulness.
Here's emunah in action. Ex 17:12, Moses during the battle, Aaron and Hur holding up his arms:
"his hands were steady until the going down of the sun."
"Steady" = emunah.
Now Hab 2:4: "the just shall live by his faith."
The Hebrew is be'emunato: by his faithfulness. His steadiness.
The New Testament quotes that verse three times (Rom 1:17, Gal 3:11, Heb 10:38). The Hebrew behind it isn't "the just shall live by agreeing with a statement." It's "the just shall live by holding steady."
Faith isn't a feeling you have once. It's something you keep holding up.
@SoliDeoGloria_X Right…You have to venomously deny it that God has spoken more for the benefit of all the inhabitants of the world. It makes your position irrelevant and you loose your livelihood. That’s got to be demoralizing.
No one said it…no one. No matter what you say or do to mock, degrade or destroy the truth of God and demonize people filled with the hope and faith of Jesus Christ. Your efforts will have no lasting impact. No unhallowed hand can stop this work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished and the great Jehovah shall say the work is done.
A bible, a bible we already have a bible… more words from the living Jesus Christ helps clarify His doctrine and exposes many of their positions and theories as incorrect interpretations. It nukes the creeds. We sincerely invite all to read this additional testament of Jesus Christ, it is tangible evidence of the restoration of His gospel and His Church on the earth today!
Sticks and Stones…no matter your opinion, negativity or efforts against this great latter-day work just realize: The standard of truth has been erected. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished and the great Jehovah shall say the work is done.
We don’t need to debate anything. Contention is the spirit of the devil. No matter what you say or do will have no effect whatsoever on the outcome or progress of the restoration of the gospel. In the words of the prophet Joseph Smith: The standard of truth has been erected.
"Behold, O Lord, thou canst do this. We know that thou art able to show forth great power, which looks small unto the understanding of men."
–Ether 3:5
You speak of Jesus Christ as though he ceases to exist. The good news is that He lives and continues to guide his people today! Your right nothing comes after him- and because he lives and loves us, His words have not ceased. There will be no opposition that will hinder Gods great later day work to prepare his people for his second coming. Truth is we need good men like you in the work of the Lord’s restoration to come to a unity of faith.
@svdsnnr@j_divis We have brother. We are sharing what our research and the Holy Spirit has confirmed. God continues to bless his children with more of his glorious wisdom. No need to contend the words of Jesus Christ, let’s rejoice together in his love and gift for mankind.
It’s rich that you try to place limits on the power of Jesus Christ. If he lives and continues to speak why would you not want to receive it? God has shown us a pattern, that He will often choose the weak and simple things to show His strength, for His ways are not our ways and to those who believe will he give more light and understanding by the Holy Ghost, and those who mock and scorn he taketh away. God continues to guide His children and I have benefited greatly by opening my heart to receive more. The gospel has been restored and no hand can stop its progress as we prepare for His second coming. Join with us brother we need good men like yourself. I testify that these things are true.
I am a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and through 35 years of dedicated study of the gospel of Jesus Christ, I have come to know for myself that its teachings are consistent with the Holy Bible, particularly the words and teachings of our Savior recorded in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
My testimony is not based on blind faith or simply accepting what others have taught me. It has been strengthened through decades of prayer, personal study, reflection, and a sincere desire to understand and follow Jesus Christ.
I testify that salvation comes through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and His infinite and eternal Atonement. Through His suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane, where He shed His precious blood for our sins, His sacrifice upon the cross, and His glorious Resurrection, He made redemption and eternal life possible for all mankind.
I believe Jesus Christ is the literal Son of God, the promised Messiah, the Savior and Redeemer of the world. I believe He lives, that He loves us, and that it is only through His grace, mercy, and atoning sacrifice that we can be reconciled to our Heavenly Father.
My faith, my hope, and my salvation rest entirely in Jesus Christ. Not in Joseph Smith, not in any mortal man, and not in theological arguments or religious labels.
Others may disagree with my understanding of scripture or my religious beliefs, and I respect their right to do so. But no one can diminish the testimony I have gained through 35 years of sincerely seeking to know and follow Him.
Jesus Christ is my Lord, my Savior, and my Redeemer. He is the foundation of my faith, the source of my hope, and the only way to eternal life. Of these truths, I testify without hesitation or apology.
Name the prophet who closed the canon.
You can't. Nobody can. Because it never happened.
The story starts with a voice. "They heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden" (Gen 3:8). Then Enoch, Noah, Abraham. Then Sinai: a prophet, a date ("the third month," Ex 19:1), God's words, a reason, all written down.
That's God's pattern: call a prophet, give authority, reveal, record.
"Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." (Amos 3:7)
The pattern never broke. Agabus (Acts 11:28). Judas and Silas (Acts 15:32). Philip's four daughters (Acts 21:9). Even the biggest change in the NT, the gospel to the Gentiles, came by vision to Peter on a rooftop in Joppa "about the sixth hour" (Acts 10).
So a real closing of the canon needs the same file:
Prophet: ___
Date: ___
What God said: ___
Reason: ___
Every field is blank.
What we have instead is men.
Marcion, a heretic, made the first list (c. AD 144).
Athanasius, 367: our 27 NT books, but he cut Esther.
Hippo 393, Carthage 397: "received from our fathers."
Luther, 1522: called James "an epistle of straw," moved Hebrews, James, Jude, Revelation to the back. 1534: set the Apocrypha apart between the Testaments.
Trent, 1546: canon by anathema.
Westminster, 1646: "nothing... to be added... by new revelations."
The 1611 KJV HAD the Apocrypha. A Bible society policy in 1826 dropped it.
Today: Protestant 66. Catholic 73. Orthodox more. Ethiopian 81, with Enoch.
If God closed the canon, He closed it four different ways.
And the Bible never claimed to be complete. It cites books we don't have: Jasher (Josh 10:13), the Wars of the Lord (Num 21:14), Nathan and Gad (1 Chr 29:29), Iddo (2 Chr 9:29), Shemaiah (2 Chr 12:15), Paul's epistle "from Laodicea" (Col 4:16). Jude quotes Enoch.
Most prophets never wrote a word of it. Elijah. Elisha. The 100 prophets Obadiah hid in caves (1 Kgs 18:4), and not one of them left a book. Jesus Himself wrote no book; only the dust (John 8:6). And John admits: "even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written." (John 21:25)
Worse for the closers, the Bible PROMISES more:
"In the last days... your sons and your daughters shall prophesy" (Acts 2:17).
Elijah comes before the great day (Mal 4:5).
Two prophets in Revelation 11. The same book they use to close it.
"Other sheep I have... they shall hear my voice" (John 10:16).
And when He returns: "Then shall the King say..." (Matt 25:34).
So why the fight? We've seen it before.
"We are Moses' disciples. We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is." (John 9:28-29)
They built tombs for dead prophets and rejected the living ones (Matt 23:29-31).
Today: "A Bible! A Bible! We have got a Bible, and there cannot be any more Bible." (2 Nephi 29:3)
Same sentence, 2,000 years apart.
Follow it out. If the canon is closed, God stopped talking to His children. No prophets, despite Acts 2. No record for the other sheep. No one with authority to correct anything. Result: ~2.3 billion Christians (Pew), plus Jewish and secular scholars publishing their own interpretations, translations, and commentaries, and an endless number of pastors giving their private interpretations and opinions of scripture every Sunday morning. ~50,000 denominations. One "infallible" book. Endless "so that means..."
"No prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation." (2 Pet 1:20)
Apostles and prophets were given "Till we all come in the unity of the faith." (Eph 4:13)
We're not there.
So God did what He always does after an apostasy. He called a prophet. Spring 1820, a grove in New York: "This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!" (JS-H 1:17) Priesthood restored by the hands of those who held it. New scripture. The other sheep's record.
"Because that I have spoken one word ye need not suppose that I cannot speak another." (2 Nephi 29:9)
The closing of the canon wasn't a revelation. It was a decision.
It was never inspired.
Read the Book of Mormon. Ask God (Moroni 10:4-5). He still answers.
Say what you may, nothing you say or do will stop or lessen the truth go forth. Watch this statement from the prophet Joseph Smith continue to unfold in your life. The standard of truth has been erected.
- Joseph Smith 1842
I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I know God the Eternal Father lives and loves me. His Son, Jesus Christ, is my Savior, and because of what He has accomplished, I can return to live with my Father again.
I am forever grateful to know who I am. As a child of God, I have infinite worth and potential.
It is incomprehensible to my finite mind to to fully grasp at the effort that my God and your God works to tirelessly bring us closer to Him. He wants all of us, all of His children, to return to
His presence and become joint heirs with Christ.
Hey Matt- this is what you are see with the unfolding of the Restored gospel of Jesus Christ: The standard of truth has been erected. Come join us in this great work to prepare for the second coming of Jesus Christ!
