Numerous auto fatalities in the news lately here on big island of Hawaii. Mostly on saddle road and Queen K highway.
During covid, officals justified all actions by saying "if it saves only one life it's worth it". So why not build divided 4 lanes like Hilo has to save lives ?
@FrankBr05713205@gunga_dinh I still ride but I just assume every driver is going to do something stupid that might kill me and I ride accordingly. I don't even get upset anymore since most are clueless that they almost prematurely ended my ride.
My thoughts on the Apache that was shot down by Iran:
I cannot begin to explain how lucky that Apache crew was that was shot down. Yes, UXOs happen, but that is just part of the luck (especially since it was on fire!).
Apaches have a tandem cockpit, which means the pilots sit one in front of the other, like a fighter jet, rather than side by side like most helicopters.
The fact that the drone hit between the two pilots without actually hitting one of the pilots is just wild…there isn’t that much room for that not to happen.
Then, having to ditch in the Strait of Hormuz after a drone crashes into you and your helicopter is on fire with flames likely filling your line of sight. Sounds like they likely did power-on ditching procedures, but once they jettison the canopy and hit the water things happen fast. Helicopters roll when they hit the water and start to fill up with water. It’s very disorienting and the water is dark. You also still have to worry about the rotor blades.
When train for this. We refer to it as “dunker training.” But in the span of most standard Army pilots careers, they usually only complete the initial training, not the annual follow on training that is preferred.
The pilots were able to get out and find each other and wait in the water for two hours while a drone boat came and rescued them…. Technology that those pilots likely didn’t even know existed until it picked them up.
A lot of things that could have and likely should have gone wrong, didn’t. Things very easily could have ended much differently.
Very grateful those pilots are ok. 🇺🇸🙏
Have you watched Red Dawn w your sons? You have time before the 4th of July so they can appreciate those who saved our country from communism in the 1980s.
@FrankBr05713205 The hole on the end of the big wrenches works well for straightening out bent dirt bike shift levers.
The adjustable end was useful for inventing new cuss words.
Property taxes on primary residences are a tax on unrealized gains, and the double standard around it is glaring.
You buy a house for $300k with your after-tax dollars. Years later the market rises and the assessor says it’s now worth $600k. Your tax bill goes up—even though you didn’t sell, didn’t refinance, didn’t pull out a dime of equity. You’re paying higher taxes every single year on “wealth” that exists only on paper. That is the literal definition of taxing unrealized appreciation.
Politicians and pundits scream bloody murder when anyone suggests doing the exact same thing to billionaires’ unrealized stock gains. “It’s unfair! They’ll be forced to sell assets!” Yet the same logic is applied to your family home without a second thought. If the principle is wrong for Elon Musk’s Tesla shares, it’s wrong for grandma’s paid-off house.
The common defense—“It pays for schools and roads”—doesn’t hold up as justification for this specific mechanism. Those services are valuable, but tying their funding to the fluctuating paper value of your home creates a system where success (a nicer neighborhood, inflation, or simple supply and demand) is punished with a higher bill. Once the mortgage is gone, you still don’t truly own it. You’re a tenant with extra paperwork, paying annual rent to the government based on an assessment you don’t control.
This isn’t about hating government services. It’s about honest funding. Tax actual economic activity—consumption via a broad sales tax, realized capital gains, or user fees for specific services. Shift the burden to people who are actively spending or transacting in the economy instead of penalizing ownership itself. Other countries and even some U.S. localities have shown you can fund local government without treating primary homes like perpetual leaseholds from the state.
Ownership should mean ownership. Not “you own it until the county decides your paper equity went up.” Abolish property taxes on primary residences. The current system is a wealth tax dressed up as a service fee, and it’s long past time we called it what it is.
@HeritageNateM@FenixAmmoHR Same with my brother and I. We raced dirt track from Sacramento to Peoria to Daytona and never worried about leaving all our stuff open in the pits. We were often beat by competitors that we loaned parts to.
Some competitors let my brother race their spare bikes. High trust.
@SoveyX At least she is still in contact with her cart.
I have a problem with the people that abandon their cart blocking an aisle while they wander the aisle looking for an item that is somewhere else in the store.
@FrankBr05713205@nelmagene2010 Wondering how you find the time to repair vehicles, teach kids, post content, answer all replies and pursue hobbies also.
I wander around looking at broken vehicles and home repair projects then get option paralysis and say there's always tomorrow. I need your discipline.
@SurferErek They call Las Vegas the ninth island because Hawaii citizens love to go there and gamble.
But if we gamble here then suddenly it is evil and life destroying ?
Makes you wonder how much the casinos spend on Hawaii politicians to make sure we have to fly to their casinos to gamble.
Send the video to everyone you know showing how heinously Nowak was treated by the police in his dying moments and how the police cravenly kowtowed to his murderer.
Legacy mainstream media, same ones who wrote about George Floyd millions of times, are dead silent about Nowak.
Hello Senator Thune,
Let's expose what you're really doing with "reconciliation."
You announced it yesterday, eleven months after the House passed the SAVE America Act. You're not trying to pass this bill. You're trying to kill it in a way you can blame on process.
Here's how we know:
Reconciliation requires the Senate parliamentarian to rule that provisions are "budgetary." Citizenship verification is not budgetary. Photo ID mandates are not budgetary. The parliamentarian will gut the bill. Then you'll shrug and say "we tried." We see through you.
Meanwhile, you WON'T use the tools that actually work:
Rule XIX limits each senator to two speeches per legislative day. Keep the Senate in continuous session, file cloture daily, and the filibuster exhausts in ~12-20 days. You dismissed it as "complicated." Because if you tried and succeeded, you'd have to actually pass the bill.
Harry Reid nuked the filibuster in 2013 when he wanted results.
Mitch McConnell changed Senate rules THREE times and canceled the August recess.
Chuck Schumer used reconciliation within months on a 50-50 Senate.
You have 53 seats. You've changed nothing, canceled nothing, and waited eleven months.
Now let's talk donors:
• Goldman Sachs: $150K to you - top H-1B user
• Google: $75K - lobbies against E-Verify
• Meta: $72.5K - Zuckerberg's FWD[.]us pushes mass immigration
• Wells Fargo: $90K - banks undocumented immigrants
Same corporations sponsor Punchbowl News, where you sit for "Fly Out Days" which nobody watches except Congress staffers and K Street lobbyists who pays premium bucks for legislative intelligence. Their reporter then telegraphs to the audience the SAVE Act "will ultimately fail."
Corporate money flows to you AND to the outlet that frames your inaction as inevitable.
We see the loop.
You called grassroots anger a "paid influencer ecosystem." YOU are the paid influencer. You take the wrong side of a 80% issue because you are indistinguishable from a K Street mouthpiece, and an ineffective one to boot who won't bend the rules to get anything passed.
What we want:
1. Force a real talking filibuster.
2. Stop hiding behind process.
3. Pass the SAVE America Act.
YOU will become the reason that we will have our butts kicked in midterms. Not Candace Owens, not Nick Fuentes, not anyone else. You and you alone, and all because you want to make the 200 or so viewers of Punchbowl Fly Out Days happy. You're living in a K Street information bubble, addicted to the comforts and praises of lobbyists masquerading as journalists. You mistake the steak and martini dinners you get invited to as your own constituents.
You are not "moderate." The SAVE America Act has 98% support among Republicans. Name one other thing that has 98% support. You are an extreme minority who prides himself on being a calm leader, when in reality you are well in the running for the most ineffective Majority leader of all time.
Prove me wrong. Do the bare modicum of effort. Not symbolic. Actual effort. Cancel the recess. Get SAVE America Act passed.
