@AdrianoAguzzi completely agree with you in general, but it is also a fair point that PhD programs prepare students to succeed in academic careers... which requires papers. going through the publication process is an important part of learning how the system works
@PracheeAC I dunno, go to any journal club and it's people jumping over each other to point out flaws/holes in even top tier articles. I haven't met many people who completely trust papers outright. imo the most important thing that preprints did was to get information dispersed faster
