A 17 year project and with WWII looming it’s not hard to see why critics labeled Joyce as self-indulgent and arrogant, especially with his “stream of consciousness” approach to writing from Ulysses to here. Changed the scene for novelists like Woolf and Proust. Love modernism.

It’s clear that Emily is not a film critic, however, there were some points made that I agree with and had factored into my ranking. Definitely disagreed with a lot of points too. Good review and I’m glad she acknowledges that it will help keep literacy alive within the youth.
